Would this be considered valid or invalid reputation?

Hypothetically speaking, are we allowed to leave reps such as "User admitted to scamming [proof link here]" ?

If someone admitted to scamming, especially on site, surely the rep would be valid given there is a link to proof, no? I'd assume the rep would be invalid without proof (i.e., screenshot, thread/post id etc.)

Just curious.

I think we can. I've never done such a thing so I'm not for certain.
Deal Dispute Linking: We don't allow you to link to a Deal Dispute forum thread that's opened by another member.

You cannot link to someone else's deal dispute, however I guess if a user admits to scamming it would be different, you could link to that particular post. Nothing stopping them editing/deleting it though.

My suggestion is that if someone admits to scamming, explicitly, whereby you don't make assumptions, you could probably report their post or send staff a link to the post. Not 100% sure but like I said, if it's explicit, staff may action it depending on the situation. But the blanket rule is that staff don't get involved.

Gotta be pretty stupid to scam someone and then explicitly admit it though.
Id assume it still falls under "invalid scammer rep" but idk. Only person that can answer this is a staff member, pm them.
I don't believe you're allowed to leave reputation including the word "scam" unless it's followed by a link of a thread you posted in the Deal Dispute forum. You can say "Deal with caution" though.

I know the general rule, but I haven't seen anything about people who have openly admitted to scamming. If it was on site, I would report the post, but what if the person scammed outside of HF and "bragged" or discussed it on site? I would think reporting it would be pointless(?), but leaving a reputation on the user's profile should be done to notify people of the user's behavior and possible intentions. See what I'm getting at? It could even be something like "I always scam when it comes to e-whoring" or something of that nature. In that case, you wouldn't leave a rep saying "DWC, user is a scammer" (against rules), but something like "User admitted to scamming ewhore customers". The second reputation could end up being reputation abuse which is why I made this thread..

I would think so as well, but if the person admits it, anyone who potentially deals with said user should know of his/her past behavior, no?

Right, but what if the person admits to scamming offsite in a post here on HF? For example, "I've scammed on xyz forum" etc. My first inclination would be to screenshot that and leave a -3 saying "User admitted to scamming on__ [screenshot/post id]". Just not sure if that would be considered as reputation abuse or not..

I don't imagine there would be any issue if you're explicitly saying that they posted something on another site, especially if you link to it. You can rep for just about any arbitrary reason you can think of with a few exceptions, so I can't think of a reason why pointing out something they did offsite would get you into trouble.

Unless you were the one he scammed it is not valid. The link also must be a deal dispute thread.

That makes sense.
But at the same time, I could totally see how that could be abused. For example, "User is a known scammer on ___" and not leaving any proof. Same goes for wild claims such as "User tried to rat me".

Idk.

Maybe if somebody does admit to some sort of scamming, and the post is reported, their account will get closed(?)

I'd prefer someone who is a scammer elsewhere were labeled as such, validated or not. It's not an announcement, it's a notation for anyone curious enough to look into someone they are considering doing business with. That said, Omni might not want it done anyway to avoid conflict as well as staff involvement.

For what it's worth, being proven as a scammer on another forum isn't going to get anyone closed here.

Exactly my point. Both are very valid perspectives...

Totally understand that as well which is why I questioned the purpose of reporting such a post in the first place. If you're not breaking HF policy you shouldn't get closed.

It's a bit of a grey area in terms of HF rules imo. Surely posting a reputation such as "DWC {insert HF link here}" would be enough anyway?

If a user openly admitted to scamming another member, necessary action will be taken. The only reputation that should be valid is the victim linking the scam report to the users' reptation page. No one else should give bad reputation if you aren't the one being scammed.

I know this doesn't fully answer your question so I would await an official response from a staffer.

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't even think of doing that lmao. I don't think I've ever gave out a "DWC" rep so I guess that's why haha. If I ever come across a situation like this, that is what I'll do. Thanks 🤝

Thanks for the reply, Genuine. It's funny that I posted this thread, and then I get contacted by someone who I think may be compromised (https://hackforums.net/member.php?action...id=1417646 check TS + recent scam reports), and has an open deal dispute with this post https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?ti...id51185041 where the person who opened the dispute with the scammer wrote "Yes I have scammed before" (screenshot in case the post gets junked or edited)

Off-topic, did you change your username @Genuine? I swear I've never seen you around before 😧

I would directly contact a staff member if you have reason to believe a user has multiple accounts. And I took a long break from HF after I retired as a staff member. 👹
