The company may be aiming to play Samsung's game by building a phone with a curved OLED display, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.
Apple may adopt a key feature from smartphones manufactured by its biggest rival.
Next year's lineup of iPhones could include three different and distinct variants: a "4.7-inch model, another that will be 5.5-inches and a premium handset that will be either 5.5-inches or larger equipped with a screen bent on the two sides," the Nikkei Asian Review reported Tuesday, citing a source familiar with Apple's plans.
The first two phones would sport the traditional flat screen, while the third handset would adopt a curved display similar to the one used by Samsung for its premium phones, such as the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Galaxy Note 7.
Samsung's goal behind its curved phones is to offer wraparound real estate devoted to icons, apps and other content. The S7 Edge has been a hot seller since its introduction in March. With iPhone sales hit by two quarterly declines, Apple needs to jazz up its lineup with more enticing features, which could include a curved display.

I believe this might further increase the costs of maintenance and repairs on these devices, as curved screens may make replacing them harder, though I have no idea if a curved screen would really increase the difficulty of disassembly and reconstruction.
Curved screen smartphones is a total waste of money.
It makes it harder to slide into your pocket, aftermarket case manufacturers like Otterbox would have a hard time to make a case for these curved screen phones and it would make it harder for end users to remove the case to swap SD cards (or if you travel, Swapping SIM cards)
Not gonna buy that trash if it has a curved screen fuck that garbage. They can keep a shitty phone with that shitty screen. That's why I never bought any of those galaxy edge phones. They look like garbage and I bet they're annoying asf to use. Hope apple doesn't go down this route.

"Edge"/curved phone screens are so gimmicky. You can get all of the same functionality with a 2.5D glass screen or a 2D screen, these just add needless heft, bulk, and price to the equation.
I don't middleman any deals on- or off-site. Please don't message me requesting my past services and certainly don't fall for anybody who claims to be me.
no thanks apple, I dont want a curved screen. It will look ugly and uncomfortable.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MEMBER
Great idea I must say the future of mobile technology innovation

It's recommended to share why you believe this is a great idea. Innovation isn't merely "something people didn't have before", because I can think of a few features that don't exist, and for a good reason, there's no practical use to it. Aesthetics are nowadays used a lot to compete with other products, and it's not like a curved screen gives you 180° view or a larger resolution or anything.
As a Galaxy s7 Edge (titanium Silver) owner i disagree with people calling it ugly. It looks very good and high tech.
However i do agree that apple shouldnt make curved screens because its something Samsung is known for. (their biggest competition in the Phone business)
I would like Apple to make high tech Iphones that look like the old IPhone 3 and ipods. That design was sick.
I cant believe there taking out the aux port so the say,,, ill probably buy it if the hype is real and not fake but as long as it don't bend lolllll the curve its watever
Curved screen smartphones is a total waste of money.
headphones and aux port will go away but probably not for 7 and neither will the curved screen, too late in the game for production with the patent just being filed. they'll make it great as they usually do
I'm not interested; if you ask me they are out of creative juice!
Lol i would never buy this, it seems like a horrible design...
Would never buy it, currently own a s7 edge.... Looks sexy as hell but unfortunately the edge makes the glass extremely delicate, slipped out of my hand while setting it down on a table, fell literally no more than an inch... whole screen shattered. The edge also makes the screen extremely expensive to repair, everywhere is quoting me 400 to fix it, yeah no thanks

Definitely agreed. Beautiful phone but it's just not very practical. No screen should cost $400 to repair.
