How difficult is it to start a web hosting service?

How hard is it to start up a website offering web hosting? I don't expect it to be something that's a piece of cake or take 5 minutes to setup and go, but where do people get the knowledge of setting it up, or how do you actually set up a service like that?

I only ask here as I notice a lot of users here use kinda the same control panel inside their service.
You mean Cpanel? It's fairly easy to set up, but unless you have extensive linux experience, particularly centos you are asking for trouble.

Cpanel yeah, well at the moment I'm just curious how it's all setup. Many user here seem to be able to do it, but I'm interested in knowing the process of getting a whole site up and running. Obviously apart from needing possible HTML/CSS/Javascript knowledge to make up the site, but mostly how do you offer a service. How can you give people web hosting, where do you get hosting to sell to users kinda thing. Then of course the whole CPanel connecting it all together.
Depends on the quality of the service.
If you want to start quickly you just have to get "Reseller" hosting from any hosting service provider.
They already have cPanel installed .
Just link it to the domain, buy WHMCS license ,configure the prices and you are ready to go.
Honestly, isn't hard to set one up at all. I set one up a couple years ago. Got bored of it, but it was a fun project

What programs, services, and investments did you need to get one going?
All i'm saying is don't aim for Hackforums to be your main target audience. Of course make it your audience but aim for local businesses or other forums.

Oh for sure, if I ever make a product, I don't ever want to target one particular website. I'd do my research and find the best places, look into another forms of advertising as well such as banners and find out costs. I like to be cautious and look into things before I actually ever start something. First impressions to any customer is vital and if you run into issues that you can't solve, there goes potential recommendations.
