Force GAuth?

Why do we not force and/or require all upgraded members to enable GAuth?

There are many TFA clients for your desktop and/or browser (https://www.authy.com/blog/introducing-a...l-computer for example) so people can't complain about not having a smart phone to use TFA. Or if this still isn't an option, what about like an email based TFA?

I think it would really push it and help make everyone use it. I am not sure how many don't use it, but I have seen some upgraded members without it enabled. And I do not see it being too much of a hassle for Omni to make this requirement, although I could be wrong.

Thoughts?

I would agree if only applies to those who are selling and buying stuff on hf.

I understand that it can stop big names on HF getting their accounts stolen and scamming their customers.

But if somebody doesn't want the hassle of setting up Gauth, won't it not discourage them from upgrading?

Also if it was to be forced on every upgraded member, do they have to set it up immediately once upgraded before they can access their account again, how are they going to go about doing that?
If it's optional, users will probably tend to setup everything with care and make sure everything is backed up..
If it were mandatory, users would set it up in a hurry just to access HF again and probably delete the app down the road or use some random password for the app that they wouldn't remember.

I know how useful and awesome GAuth is but I don't agree with forcing it on them, there are some people that are to stupid to understand it and they shouldn't be locked out of their account because of that.

Or maybe they just don't know how it works either way I don't think that's a good idea. Let's see what Omni says though.

Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
I do like the idea of the requiring for market place threads but thought that was already a rule.

As for how they would set it up, simply when they log in if they are in the group but no GAuth, force them to enable it.

Yeah I can see how it might hassle some people but at the same time it is a good security habit many don't do. And it isn't too confusing since so many services have it now. I am just curious about what everyone thinks and if that might be a possibility. Or at least require gauth for premium sellers or something?

2FA is all that it's cut out to be, but sadly many users on here are incapable of:
  1. Setting it up

  2. Maintaining the backup of the secret, or even backing up the secret

I don't middleman any deals on- or off-site. Please don't message me requesting my past services and certainly don't fall for anybody who claims to be me.
Force it to sellers, exchangers and any person that use HF for deals is I think mostly needed. Rest not sure it is...

People are lazy and don't want to go the extra step(s).

Even if you don't have a cell phone, you can use Gauth with Google Chrome plugin.

imagine all the pm's/emails omni would get then.

Which is kind of a sad thing.

I mean if Omni added the ability of email based TFA it might help as well. If people just used authy or a similar app that saved it for you then people would have issues.

Some people have windows phones which dont work with it maybe somehow someway members dont own a smart phone so overall just easier to make it optional and if you get your account stolen then its on you for not enabling it not anyone else and if you cant use it then be extra careful
If you saw how many contacts I get everyday because of a lost Gauth then you'd know how bad this idea is.
