So I remember last year some people were asking for legitimately scary anime that they could watch for Halloween, and the consensus was that basically there isn't loads of legitimately scary anime out there, despite the abundance of Horror themed ones. If you look online or in previous threads then other people are going to reccommend stuff like Another, Parasyte, and sometimes even just extremely gory ones like Berserk - which are all good, but don't exactly give you the chills.
Well here is my main reccomendation for Halloween - Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories
It started in 2013, but has seasons even in 2016 - the animation style is very strange and not really like anything you have seen in another anime, which serves the purpose of this anime so well. It is like the anime equivalent of filming a movie differently in order to make it more unsettling.
The episodes, or 'Ghost Stories' really get to the horror and the point quite fast and don't bore you at all - each one is 4 minutes long and almost all of them have the necessary amount of chills. Some will find this scarier than others, it's probably not going to make you shit your pants, but some of these stories are really eerie and quite fucking creepy tbh, even starting from episode one. Even the intro and outro for each episode is fucking eerie as fuck.

I know, that is why I offered up this show - it is a very different kind of anime, there isn't much like it so get to night time, turn all the lights off and sit in your bed alone with this show and see if it doesn't even creep you out a little after a few episodes.

Personally I love Parasyte, it is a very unique show. This show is also a unique show although nothing like Parasyte; I mean the closest thing to that I can think of is Tokyo Ghoul. Parasyte is like a mix between Tokyo Ghoul and Assassination Classroom xD Ummm When They Cry is also a good horror anime though, a little unsettling although not super creepy or anything :)

I confirm this, Hellsing is a great horror anime; not super scary but can get pretty eerie at times :)

IT for sure had its moments, but I literally never lost interest in the show which was a great feeling. Honestly don't think any new show I watch will intrigue me as much which sucks.

Thats sad :( Have you watched Bungo Stray Dogs? It is probably the most intriguing show to air recently in my opinion, especially if you read into it and all the little easter eggs they put in it as shoutouts to real life authors that actually help you tell how the story will go and why characters are the way they are.

Don't get me wrong I really enjoy my usual genres of ecchi/harem/romcoms but PArasyte was different. I literally looked forward to getting home from work to watch it :(
Other anime I still can sit and watch and enjoy, but Parasyte was just really good, ALMOST as good as Akame ga Kill 🤐
Also I'm watching Konosuba right now cause of the new season it's getting this January.
People consider parasyte to be horror? I just thought of it as an action-suspense. Nothing scary about it? Unless people getting slaughtered is scary to you idk

None of which are legitimately scary - in my post I note that all the websites will tell you to watch these shows, but really they just have dark themes and gore. Horror themes doesn't make it scary for Halloween - these shows are amazing and I love them all, but I made this post for people trying to find anime that is actually creepy.

did you watch food wars yet?? Food wars is a masterpiece and it came out of nowhere i swear!
The plot is so so strong and its just a anime about food and chefs! it teaches you real life recipes aswell
