Scammed by BTCExchangez AKA Ghost - UID: 2444198 - $9,100 (New HF record?)

Damn it, PayPal is literally the worst payment processor for this kind of payment.

I am sorry for your loss, I hope PayPal will refund you AND the victim who got his PayPal stolen. Why? Because it's their fault that they don't request SMS confirmation or some other 2FA like most of the reliable payment services, e.g. most of banks.

Paypal however aren't a bank.

What I am struggling with is that for someone to send this amount of money even from "hacked" paypals they have to have built up some kind of history on the accounts, cookies etc.

This would need to have been planned for a short while.

I think that there must be some kind of 2FA. Cookies or history can be stolen/hijacked/copied/whatever.

On the other hand, it was your ignorance that led to this, so I'd argue that you should take the loss.

you're joking right?

the paypal account owner should have secured himself

that's also a factor
I don't middleman any deals on- or off-site. Please don't message me requesting my past services and certainly don't fall for anybody who claims to be me.

You realize that not all people are so techy and aware of the dangers on the Internet? Yet all people over 18 years old are able to create account, even if they don't know shit about viruses and are downloading PayPal-Money-Generators from youtube.

I think PayPal should enforce reliable 2FA system, therefore for example OP would not have this problem today.

But this shit can cost OP $9k. If PayPal would have 2FA for payments, this situation would not happen. 2FA bypasses are extremely rare.

I mean, to be honest it sounds like the owner of that paypal account was RATed/keylogged, as paypal didn't ask for identification before sending $5k. If that's the case, 2FA would be useless. Usually with that much money in such a short amount of time, they would get suspicious.

How come it would be useless? If there would be SMS verification he would not be able to send it even using his computer. Unless he manages to hack his phone too, but it's a lot of hassle and not everyone can do that. However every dumbass can RAT a PC and send payment when the user is away.

Oh, I was confused as to what you meant. I don't think that was setup. The user could have had login 2FA. My point was only login 2FA wouldn't work. You're right though, if it required confirmations from phone every payment then this wouldn't have happened. From my experience however, this only happens when it's a far away computer.

My god .. why would you deal with such high amount for PayPal with a single user in HF.. almost 10k Rip off . I bet you didn't take his ID proof ; damn it bro 😟
What a scam seriously .... 😟. You should have lesson now that never take PayPal such huge amount from anyone in the internet without proper physical dealing . You could have sent some physical item to his address and have some shipment proof for your defense as you did deal such huge amount , also you should have taken ID proof selfie video along with PayPal registered email receipt screenshot proof for the transaction ID's . Pretty sad this happened :( ; i guess immediately report it to cyber crime department of your country with explaining everything clear to them and truthful . This is huge amount and you shouldn't let the scammer get away easily . If he used stolen PayPal account that's a big cyber Fraud and Financial misuse . Just report to authority and fuck solving it with GayPal , they will never support you for this much dispute as you didn't have any seller protection . And never take PayPal such huge amount continuously from a single user for your Bitcoin , just never do that . There is multiple people around and everyone always ready to deal for your BTC for their PayPal , so diversify the risk always and take ID proof video always whoever you deem suspicious and match their Confirmed PayPal address with the ID address . Also these documents will help for future scam like this to go to authority and file a serious charge in case of big fraud happens like this . I hope you get sorted this out ... but i would suggest do not do late with some useless talk with PayPal and go to authority straight and report this as a serious crime , also report to cyber cell .
