If you want to become a real hacker you need to learn HTML and CSS.

Seriously though if you want to learn about compromising database etc a fairly novice way to do so would be SQL injection, it's relatively straight-forward and there are lots of resources both on hack forums and google.

And Clojure. The real hacker language.
Red Squirrels problem is he is wanting to do too much, he should first focus on 1 specific area of hacking.

Start learning a few of the OS basics before you jump into hacking. Learn how to work your was around a computer and do basic tasks using terminal. If you have multiple devices, try to learn how to use SSH and SCP. Then maybe practice something simple like the Aircrack suite.
You'll have learned the basics of using linux and how to run programs through bash once you're done. Let me know once you've done this and I'll help you one on one.

im not sure what a VB is but if you were referring to a vm then yes just get a virtual machine and use the operating system on the vm, thats what i do.

Visual Basic = VB
Keep in mind that if you're using a VM you will need to have a decent computer to be able to run it will. It will essentially be cutting your computers performance in half.
Also, to do wifi attacks you won't be able to use built in wireless cards.

I would not recommend doing anything related to Visual Basic. It is very old and can be replaced by C#. (Visual Studio)

No, he means virtual box. Virtual basic there doesn't even make sense...
