New Zcash Award
This week, our administrator Omniscient posted a thread in the cryptocurrency section where he stated he was very impressed with a cryptocurrency known as Zcash. Because of this he has decided to add a new cryptocurrency award to HF. The Zcash award is now officially for sale and can only be purchased using this cryptocurrency. >>Source
Dash through the roof
For a few weeks now, Dash has been rising through the roof. Although most people are not sure why the cryptocurrency is rising in value so much in such a short period of time everyone seems to be more than happy, as the coin managed to surpass the $100 a coin mark. As of this moment Dash is still rising and doesn't seem to go down again anytime soon. Because of its recent rise in value it has sparked numerous discussions on the forum.>>Source
The Gauth Purge
A few days ago, our administrator Omniscient did a site wide Gauth Purge. A Gauth purge means that all Gauth keys have been reset and members have to reactivate 2FA on their account. In addition to the Gauth Purge, Omniscient declared that he will no longer recover accounts from members who lost them for free. Instead, he will now charge a fee depending on the state of the lost account to recover them. >>Source

Tsundere: Hello Bender and welcome to the 335 edition of the Hack Forums News. Would you like to give any shout outs before we begin? Bender: I'd like to give a shoutout to my good buddy Minimalist, he's always helping out and being a great friend to me. Thank you for having me.
Tsundere: A little late from me, but congrats to him on becoming staff. Not too long ago you made a thread in the Suggestions and Ideas forum about viewing all your posts in one thread. Omni approved this and later implemented it. Were you happy to see that acceptance, or did you just shrug it off? Bender: I was very happy. It's so rare that Omniscient accepts suggestions, let alone implements them the same day. I felt proud considering the volume of denied suggestions.
Tsundere: I was surprised as well, so congratulations on that. Now, you do not have the most posts in the Crypto Currency forum, but you thought it would appropriate to have a Crypto Currency subforum itself (Rather than be in the Money tab). Sadly that suggestion was denied, but it is interesting to see how far crypto currencies have gone. What are your views on it? Is there any coin that's really striking interest for you right now? Bender: I think that in the near future (5-10 years from now), bitcoin will not be the main cryptocurrency. Instead an alt coin such as ETH or Monero will take it's spot. One coin really interesting me right now is ETH. It's been going up like mad, it reached nearly double it's value in a matter of a few days. I invested a small bit into it, holding onto it because I hope it goes big.
Tsundere: ETH is definitely a coin that most people are having a craving for. Omniscient himself has said to invest and hold onto it. Now, Bender. What do you like to do in your sparetime outside of Hack Forums? Bender: I enjoy coding, basketball and running.
Tsundere: Interesting. Have you thought about pursuing a professional career (or do you already have one in these fields) or is there something else that is really interesting you and your future? Bender: I plan on pursing some sort of career in cybersecurity, or possibly becoming a developer.
Tsundere: That is awesome. Any idea on some of the things you would like to develop? Bender: I'm currently working on an automated discord bot for forum verification on another site. I'm also working on a few smaller projects. Ideally, I'd like to make anything that can change how people live or work.
Tsundere: Well good luck on that. Let us talk about Hack Forums current state. What is your opinion on the new header? Do you think a new theme update is on the way too? Bender: Hackforums is growing. It's doing well. I think it will continue to grow. I think the header looks nice, takes a little bit of the sinister feeling of the old logo away. I think a new theme is on the way when Omni updates to 1.8.
Tsundere: One last question before we go, Bender. HF has changed a lot throughout the years. You have been a member for around 2 years now. How much has changed since you first signed up? Bender: I joined in late 2015 but I didn't become active until around early 2016. I wouldn't say a lot has changed at all. Feels pretty much the same to me.
Tsundere: Well that is all the time we have for today. Thanks for taking the time to do this with me. Is there any final things you would like to say? Bender: Thanks for having me!

North Korea, unafraid of U.S. sanctions, continues to work on nuclear weapons
North Korea will pursue its nuclear and missile programs without caring for any more U.S. sanctions. According to Choe Myong Nam, deputy ambassador for North Korea, they plan on having an inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) and developing a pre-emptive first strike capability. The Trump administration is considering adding long-term sanctions to counter North Korea's actions. Choe called the current sanctions "heinous and inhumane". Choe claims that the "full acceleration" of their nuclear and missile programs is due to the United States and South Korea's military forces performing military drills. "It is because of these hostile activities..." In response to these military drills, they plan on developing the first strike capabilities. It's been said that North Korea may have already completed the work of their ballistic missile however a lot more work is needed until it can reach United States. >>Source
15 Year Old Girl Sexually Assaulted on Facebook Live by Group of Men
If you witnessed a sexual assault, would you report it? A group of men in Chicago live streamed a sexual assault on Facebook with 40 viewers and not a single viewer reported the attack to Chicago Police. Police weren't aware of this attack until the mother of the daughter told police she was missing and showed screenshots of the livestream. The 40 or so viewers haven't done anything illegal as they aren't required by law to report the attack. Child pornography wouldn't apply either unless they downloaded the video. >>Source
The Case That Transforms Your iPhone Into an Android
While gadget enthusiasts have been trying to get Android to run on the iPhone for ages, a new Kickstarter by Esti Inc. may have found a very different but interesting solution. Esti has created what is essentially a phone case with Android internals that attaches right to your iPhone. Named the Eye, the case will have its own battery, processor, screen, and some other internals while using the iPhone's microphone and speaker. The case will be extra useful for those who need applications or features only found on Android devices. Exact specs have not been announced, although at a sub $100 price point, the specs may not be the best available. Aside from the $95 model, a $129 model will be available that will come with 4G capability. Both are currently available on Kickstarter and Esti plan to ship products to backers later this year. >>Source
Google Chrome Now Throttles Background Tabs
Most heavy users of the Chrome browser have at one point or another opened their running processes only to find a big fat stack of resources being hogged by the web browser - and there may finally be a solution. Chrome's latest iteration, Chrome 57, has introduced a power-saving measure that will throttle inactive tabs to reserve power and resources, a measure most will welcome with open arms. The throttling system checks page activity in 10-second intervals, minimizing all tabs that are inactive, unless a tab is playing audio or using WebRTC/WebSocket connections. There are some exceptions to the throttle, such as critical processes that must be left running full capacity, but otherwise, tabs will be throttled. The update will means desktop users will see less power consumption, and those using a Laptop will see drastically improved battery life, as background tabs in Chrome account for about one-third of the browser's power usage. >>Source
Google Kills the reCAPTCHA
A nuisance to all, Google is finally ending the slight inconvenience that is the reCAPTCHA page. Unlike other CAPTCHAs, the reCAPTCHA is the "I am not a robot" checkbox you may see appear on many web pages. According to Google, the reCAPTCHA will be no more, as the process will now be automated when it is required and only activate on people Google declare bots. Users will still see regular CAPTCHA pages where Google requires you to identify things from a set of pictures. >>Source

Hundreds of High-Profile Twitter Accounts Hacked through 3rd-Party App
A 3rd-party app called Twitter Counter was hacked on Wednesday, causing the additional hack of several large Twitter accounts. The Twitter accounts that were compromised in this hack include European Parliament, Forbes, BlockChain, Amnesty International, UNICEF, Nike Spain and other organizations. The chained hack of these Twitter accounts appeared to be spamming a disturbing message written in Turkish. These messages compared the Dutch to the Nazis, with Swastikas and multiple Nazi Germany related hashtags. Some of the accounts had their profile pictures changed to an imagine of the Turkish flag and Ottoman Empire coat of arms. Twitter Counter are aware of the vulnerabilities in their systems and are working closely and collectively to deal with the issue. For now, it has been suggested that you should revoke access to Twitter Counter on your Twitter account(s) until the flaw has been patched. >>Source
US Military Top Secret Files Leaked Due to an Unsecured Drive
An unsecured backup drive that contained highly sensitive information on high-ranking officers was leaked recently. The files were able to be accessed by anyone as the drive did not even have a password to protect the drive. The information contained on the hard drive varies from names and addresses of 4,000 officers with their given ranks and even their Social Security numbers. Additionally to these details, the clearance levels of many offices were also stored on this backup drive, which is dangerous as some of the officers with top secret clearance could be potential targets for anyone trying to get their hands on such details. Staff spouses were also named in a spreadsheet with contact information on both. >>Source
