Image Proxy - Fix all the SSL problems

So, xenforo has a built in feature which cures the non-SSL pictures problem. Whenever you embed a picture using xenforo, it is hosted locally via some sort of proxy feature, thus making it SSL compliant.

Example:
https://example.com/proxy.php?image=http...hdfjks.png

So is there a way to detect image tags and to do this? Would allow non ssl images to be served with https.

Not needed.
Just make your images https and move on.

Pretty much this. Not that big of a deal to change one letter.
Not a bad idea but its not really necessary. There's plenty of image hosting sites that use https, even imgur does (not by default however).

If you paste an imgur link here with http it'll automatically get converted to https upon posting
Then I have to worry about copyright, security, and resources. We already force all image tags to be HTTPS to be embedded.

No thanks.
