I have been back on HF for a few days and 50% of what I've read are threads about 'How to be a hacker'. I have posted one of these threads before under the name 'The Sly', so I will post a similar one hoping to reduce the amount of people asking the same question and helping them.
Rule I: Use Correct Grammar
Hackforums is an English-speaking forum. We understand if you're not a native speaker and we understand if you can't speak flawless English. However, the better a question is formulated, the better we can understand what you're asking thus, the more likely we are to give a serious and helpful answer. That's why it is of your best interest to use your English spelling and grammar to the best of your ability.
Rule II: Be specific with your questions
I have been back on these forums for a few days. I have seen the question 'How to be a hacker?', 'How to get into my girlfriends social media account?', 'How to hack my school?' etc. too many damn times already.
To stick with my own rules: be as specific as you can! The more we know about what you have tried already, what you want to know, whether you want advice or not and so on, the better we are able to understand what you want to know and help you get a specific answer.
Rule III: Provide Extraneous Information
As also discussed in rule II, provide as much information as possible. Any information that might help us answer your question should be provided. Examples may be:
The more detailed your question is, the more likely you'll get an accurate answer.
Rule IV: Use that Damn Search Option and Search before you Speak
I cannot express how many questions I've read that could be solved with a minute of Googling, or even by using the Hackforums search feature. Please use this as it is incredibly agitating to see/answer the same old question again, and again, and again. We, or at least I, do not expect you to put hours or even days into searching for a single question however, we are here to help you, not to do your work. This is sort of a continuum of my last point as we also do not appreciate completely ridiculous questions. It is a waste of time, it will help no one, and it will only attract trolls and flamers. If you've tried to solve something by yourself, show it! Say you've looked but couldn't get something to work and give examples.
Following these simple rules will ensure you get a proper, quick, kind and accurate answer to your question. I made this thread due to the several low-quality threads in the recent and far past. So let me help you help us help you and follow these rules as it will only make this section much higher quality. If you want a clear overview of where to start things, read Niely's thread on learning the ropes. It covers a lot.

As earlier stated, I posted this a few years back under the name 'The Sly' (then Wycked) to reduce the amount of LQ posts. This was a repost of a thread that the member Goodies had written. Anyone ready to accuse me of plagiarism, feel free to PM me and I will explain the situation. Any bumps to keep this at the top are appreciated. Thanks.

- Incorrect: "I need halp with a BoF attack."
Correct: "I'm performing a buffer overflow attack (ASLR is on and active). After debugging, I found that the shellcode is too large to fit into the buffer. The shellcode is 350 bytes and the buffer is only 150. Please help."
