someone (usually a group) buys a large amount of a coin - usually 10s to 100s of bitcoins worth. This sudden activity may jump the coins placement up in activity charts - allowing more people to see it. More people see it, more people buy into it, causing the price to go up as demand > supply (the pump). when the person/group reches their pre-determined profit point, they will sell all their coins at once, cause the price to fall dramatically (the dump).

It's basically inflating a currency, and then eventually other people hop on the hype train, which also inflates it, which then the "pumpers," proceed to "dump" the coin when they see it has been a satisfying amount or whatever. Essentially those people who hopped on the train lose money, and the inflators gain. This is illegal in the REAL stock market.

Yeah it's illegal in the stock market. People would lose millions if this were allowed.
lol all altcoins are pumped, not saying im involved, just saying it will never stop

Accounts will get closed for that bullshit. Tired of it.

After you and the "X coin" thread where idiots actually bought that coin here I can understand this rule. Idiots didn't even fully read the thread before dumping money into the coin. Thanks for the rule update.
Nice to meet ya.
There it is, we all saw this rule coming. Great addition to the forum.
Does HF have the power to pump a coin? O_O

You're the idiot, no1 actaully bought it as you could see at the 24h volume...
Great rule, very tired of the recent "HAVE U HEARD OF X COIN?" posts.

But, what rules as a pump and a proper discussion thread for people looking to tell others about their investment though? Are there any clear cut examples? I'm thinking of this thread:

It's also Verge, is this thread acceptable as compared to the other 2 you just closed? Just wondering!

I think a more accurate word would be shilling. Promoting altcoins is fine as long as you have reasoning for your suggestions.
I don't middleman any deals on- or off-site. Please don't message me requesting my past services and certainly don't fall for anybody who claims to be me.
Should we report these as "disallowed Blackhat activity"?

Can you be specific more about the pump rule ? for people who said they bought 5M X coin is that a pump ? other said ripple is with another deal with X bank ! I think it should be specific otherwise all threads will be considered a coin pump as this sub forum about 'Crypto Currency'

Most definitely, it only takes about 100 BTC to pump, and HF members combined have over a thousand I believe.

Well, in a way that's "pumping," but not dumping. A pump and dump is an organized process for unfair gain.
Thanks for the update, will be reporting posts going forwards.

I remember Omni saying that he carefully chose staff for a specific reason, I think that would suit it. They see anything relating to Pumping, I'm sure they'd know.
