Custom Build

2000 - 2200 USD

I'm looking for a new PC to build. I want the following if possible.

- Future proof
- 1080 ti GPU unless there is a better alternative?
- Up to 4k gaming
- Up to 4k video editing
- High quality streaming / recording
- I'd prefer it to look aesthetic as well
- If extra fans are recommended please include those

Thanks to all that are able to contribute!

No peripherals included*
Case comes with two stock 120mm fans, one on the top, one at the back. They do the job and are almost silent, up to you if you change them.

Depending on the size of the files you work with, you might not need an M.2 NVME SSD

I think for $2200, this is your best possible build.

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz 8-Core Processor ($347.49 @ OutletPC)
The 8 cores / 16 threads of the Ryzen 7 1700x will be extremely useful as the industry moves towards parallel processing and optimizes for more and more cores. It should be able to breeze through heavy 4k editing workflows without any problem.

CPU Cooler: NZXT - Kraken X62 Rev 2 98.2 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($147.20 @ NCIX US)
Strong AIO cooler that looks sexy as hell and comes with a compatible AM4 bracket. This will keep things silent and cool.

Motherboard: MSI - X370 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX AM4 Motherboard ($152.98 @ Newegg)
I went with the X370 chipset here because again, we are future proofing. X370 supports SLI/Crossfire, so in the future if you want to upgrade your graphics without dishing out a ton of money for the next top of the line card, you could simply pop in another 1080 Ti. This motherboard also has plenty of VRMs to help achieve the highest possible overclock on the 1700x.

Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($256.99 @ Newegg)
The 32GB of RAM is slightly overkill, but we are future proofing here, are we not? For heavy 4k video editing, while having other programs open, you could fill up 16GB fairly easy (I'm the type of person who usually has many tabs and programs open at once, and I often come near 16GB usage). 32GB will assure that you will never be in a situation where you have too little memory. Plus, it looks way better when you fill all 4 DIMM slots!

Storage: Samsung - 960 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($127.99 @ Amazon)
Fast M.2 SSD for a boot drive and important programs.

Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
3TB of storage should be enough to last you for quite some time.

Video Card: PNY - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB XLR8 Gaming OC Video Card ($698.99 @ SuperBiiz)
This 1080 Ti looks sexy as hell, has 11 GB of GDDR5X memory, so you never have to worry if some texture mod is going to use up all your VRAM. On top of that it is a true two-slot card, meaning its very thin so it's easy to install in a smaller case.

Case: Corsair - Crystal 460X RGB ATX Mid Tower Case ($129.99 @ B&H)
This case looks sexy as all hell, comes with RGB stock fans, and is mid-size so it doesn't have to sacrifice on airflow or a ton of building space to gain a little bit more portability.

Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.89 @ OutletPC)
Highly rated 80+ Gold full-modular PSU. Need I say more?

Total: $2131.47

When working with 4k video? it won't last nearly as long as you'd think.
Otherwise great build, I'd maybe throw an extra SSD in for editing files/caching, another M.2 if the MoBo supports it.

Curious why 1700 over 1700x.

Also Microcenter has both bundled with that MOBO. $350 for both.

I'm not going round every shop that sells PC components and looking for deals. It's up to the buyer if he/she wants to search for better prices
1700 can overclock to match the 1800x

I didn't expect you to, was just noting it for the OP.

It was separate from my curiosity over the 1700x.

Fair enough, I took it as I was supposed to know that store has a deal on

1700 can overclock to match the 1800x. Might only save $50 but that can be spent elsewhere

I was planning on throwing a 500 gig SSD for caching but I ran out of runway on the budget.

Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? No. The 1700x usually can be overclocked to hit 4GHz, but it's very rare for the 1700 to reach that high of an OC stable. The 1700x are just binned better, and therefor overclock easier.
Modified 'Bens build:

Larger capacity NVMe M.2 drive
Larger HDD
Stepped up a level with the motherboard
$110 more but more capacity for those large 4k video files.
