India Launches 'Monster' Rocket
June 3 was an exciting day for India. They successfully launched their largest rocket, weighing in at approximately 2204 tons, into orbit. This is a fairly significant event for the country because they are looking to shirk independence on private companies to provide the means for them to launch their own satellites into orbit. India would also like to start offering their own satellite launching service to get their own cut of this fairly lucrative market. India's GSLV Mark III now allows them to launch payloads up to approximately 2 tons in weight. Their long-term goal of this project is to be the fourth developed nation to launch a man into space. >>Source

Juno Mission First Results: Jupiter Isn't Like What Researchers Expected
Until recently, much of Jupiter has been a mystery to us due to the clouds surrounding it. Much more has become clear to astronomers from NASA's latest observatory mission Juno. Contrary to our popular belief, the spacecraft observed two dark spots on either pole which would later be determined to be humongous cyclones. Also surprising to those on the ground in Huston was a detection of varying concentrations of ammonia in the gas giant's atmosphere. Another product of Juno is that we now know Jupiter has a magnetic field ten times that which we have on Earth. It may seem that this mission has created far more questions than it has answered, however, fret not there will be a second chance to gather more data on July 11. >>Source

Big Asteroid to Whiz (Safely) by Earth This Month
Scientists have discovered a huge asteroid barreling towards us, but as the title suggests this should not be any cause for alarm. This asteroid, known to us as 2014 JO25, is reported to be approximately 2,000 feet in size. This is the closest recorded passing in thirteen years, with the rock being expected to be 1.1 million miles from Earth. According to the statement released by NASA "Although there is no possibility for the asteroid to collide with our planet, this will be a very close approach for an asteroid of this size." Any amateur astrologists should also take this rare opportunity to view an asteroid this closely; there is no telling when we witness another event such as this. >>Source

Russian Hacking in 2016 Election
Reports of the 2016 election and Russia's involvement have been discussed many times over the past few months. Recently, it turns out that a total of 39 states were involved in the hacking, where the hackers tried to tamper with the election data. However, at the current time, it is unsure whether or not these hacks had any impact on the outcome of the election. It is important to note that very vital information could have been possibly leaked and that Russia could have had the chance to compromise major companies. In addition, this shows that there is a risk that something like this can happen again. Russian delegates have denied that Russian hackers were involved. One notable state that was hacked is Illinois. Ken Menzel is general counsel for the Illinois state board elections. Menzel states that over 15 million people were affected and personal information was obtained which includes full names, birthdays, social security numbers, and much much more. >>Source

French Police Seize 6 Tor Relay Servers in WannaCry Investigation
The WannaCry ransomware infamously known for infecting over 300,000 computers recently hit one block on the road. French police have seized 6 Tor relays that are believed to have ties with the WannaCry ransomware. Investigators believe that it originated either in North Korea or China, but at this time are unsure of the origin. Governments across the world are doing their best to research this ransomware after the global attack that occurred on May 12 of this year. For those who are unaware, the ransomware uses Tor nodes to communicate with the central server. Two nodes, Kitten1 and Kitten2, were seized back in May. Described as a hacktivist, French hacker "Aeris" who owned the two Kitten nodes gave some information to the website TheHackerNews that he is aware of the other seizures that occurred for a total of 6 different Tor relays in total. >>Source

Malware Can Cause Electric Power Outage!
Did you know that there is malware out there capable of causing a huge electric power outage? Last year in 2016 there was an attack on Ukraine's power network. As a result, which is pretty obvious, was a huge power outage. Thousands of citizens were affected and the outage lasted a little over one hour. ESET, mostly popular for their anti-virus application ESET NOD32, researched and analyzed the malware that caused this attack and titled the malicious virus as "Industroyer" or "CrashOverRide". Apparently, this malware was originally developed by the United States in 2009. The reason for this was stopping the Iranian nuclear facilities, and as you can see, the virus is very effective. This is how the virus works. The first thing to note about that virus is that it doesn't use any vulnerabilities at all. There are four things this malware relies on which are all contained inside the industrial communication protocols. Once in, it will allow the hacker to get the complete access to the remote server. >>Source

Over 800 Android Apps on Google Play Store Contain 'Xavier' Malware
Are you an Android user? Please be aware that there is currently a malware being spread around the Google Play Store. The name of the malware is called, "Xavier" A total of over 800 Android Apps have been infected with this malware that collects user data and can also possibly perform dangerous actions that you are unaware of. Trend Micro is a Japanese IT security program. They have announced on their website that the malware is usually hidden inside popular applications such as photo editors, wallpapers, and even ringtone changing apps. Taken from TheHackerNews, Xavier has the following features in it:
  • Evade Detection: Xavier is smart enough to escape from being analyzed, from both static and dynamic malware analysis, by checking if it is being run in a controlled environment (Emulator), and using data and communication encryptions.
  • Remote Code Execution: The malware has been designed to download codes from a remote Command & Control (C&C) server, allowing hackers to remotely execute any malicious code on the targeted device.
  • Info-Stealing Module: Xavier is configured to steal devices and user related information, which includes user’ email address, Device id, model, OS version, country, manufacturer, sim card operator, resolution, and Installed apps.
Remember, question what you are downloading prior to clicking the download button. A good way to see if the app is fishy or not is by reading reviews, as well as trusting your gut feeling. Be safe. >>Source
