Virtual machine Within a Virtual Machine Practical?

Can i run a virtual machine within a Virtual Machine?

Wondering if this this possible? Will this add extra security and why?

Thanks!
I have never really tried this. It would be interesting to see if it works.
Well you must have motherboard which support virutualisation (VT-d or how it's called..). So I'm not sure if it is virtualised somehow. Another thing, it would require a really huge amount of resourses. And it should be very impractical. So I'm not sure that you want this.
Another thing is security. Maybe it would help somehow but I'm pretty sure that VM are already quite strong in this thing.
It is possible, just pointless. It would require a lot of RAM and stuff, and I belive it would not increase the security at all.

it's like wearing two condoms on the same penis :D

No, Its more like having a bunker inside another bunker.
But if something can break thru the first bunker, it can do that with the 2nd one aswell.
It's possible if you have a good Pc
It's a bit redundant, but if you set up an encrypted container within a VM that stores another VM, I don't see any downside other than it being resource intensive.
I've never had the complaint "you're being too secure!" before.

LOL what a good analogy xD

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but wearing 2 condoms is actually unsafe, and jeopardizes the integrity of both condoms.
There isn't really a downside to running a vm within a vm.

One is very bad, one is just fine. Bad analogy.

Lol i was wondering why using two condoms ?

I mean it was a good analogy because of how stupid the idea is

Running a VM will already be pretty slow for most computers. I cant even imagine how laggy it will be if you have a VM on a VM lol. I dont really see the benefit either.

Wouldn't the VM wich is running the VM use the amount of RAM you've assigned it to have while setting it up?
Like if you have a 6gb RAM virtual machine, it wouldnt use more than the 6gb RAM you've gave it right?

Like, it wouldnt consume extra RAM because the VM running the VM has a specified amount.

Depends.
I have 32gb of RAM in my computer specifically for running multiple VMs simultaneously. As long as you have the resources, VMs don't have to be laggy at all. Of course, you can't game on them, but I don't see a VM within a VM being too bad as long as you dedicate the proper resources to them.

and what would be a good reason to use so many VM's?

Never heard that its a thing. Like i get it when people use several proxies and VPNs, but VMs? I dont see the point

I had half a dozen VMs set up as various environments for malware analysis. Different operating systems and such.
I also had about 4-5 other VMs for other things I can't really talk about anymore.
Then I had a few VM's for running bots on video games.

They weren't all used simultaneously, but I generally had at least 2-3 running at any time, at most 6 when I was doing the malware shit.
