To join great groups especially to all you l33t members, what you do is go here.
https://hackforums.net/usercp.php?action=usergroups

Then you click join group - You will have to write something convincing in there but if you are denied, you can try again until you are accepted. Just make sure you fix your previous mistakes if denied first.

I personally recommend dawn, it's the best group.
