If you want to join an open XMPP chat service you can try Hacker.im.

Hacker.IM Registration (client registration disabled due to Captcha)

If you have an existing XMPP service you can join an official HackForums chat room that runs there. I will personally be idling in there pretty often.

To find our chat room search the server "im.hacker.im" or more specifically we are located at "[email protected]"

Some common features in the Hacker.IM service are file transfers, group chats, OTR, and more.

You should add a XMPP tab to the forum everyone forgot about the HF XMPP I would start using it again if other people did.
