Good luck to everyone applying.
Do you have a strong interest in transhumanism?
Friedrich Nietzsche was arguably the ancestor of Transhumanism. His philosophy of the Übermensch and self-actualization provided profound influences upon the concept and growth of the Transhumanist ideology as well. As to quote Stefan Sorgner, "Nietzsche upheld that the concept of the overhuman is the meaning of the earth. I think that the relevance of the posthuman can only be fully appreciated if one acknowledges that its ultimate foundation is that it gives meaning to scientifically minded people" ("Nietzsche, the Overhuman, and Transhumanism"). One needs to look no further than Nietzsche's great works to see the theme of this self-overcoming transhumanist Übermensch:
"I teach you the overman. Man is something that shall be overcome. What have you done to overcome him?" ("Thus Spoke Zarathustra" 12)
"Life wants to climb and to overcome itself climbing" ("Thus Spoke Zarathustra" 101)
"Verily, I say unto you: good and evil that are not transitory, do not exist. Driven on by themselves, they must overcome themselves again and again." ("Thus Spoke Zarathustra" 116)

So what is, in essence, the difference between modern transhumanism and Nietzsche's overman?

The answer lies within the aspect that's being transcended. While modern transhumanists often focuses on a biological and technological aspect of transhumanism, Nietzsche focused on a different aspect: psychology. To overcome man, Nietzsche asserted, one must reevaluate his values, via the mean of Nihilism. It is then that "the highest values devalue themselves" ("Will to Power"), which then leads to the Death of God. It is then, that one can forge his own values, and truly become a psychological overman. He is then able to distinguish between "Good and evil", and "Good and bad" ("On the Genealogy of Morals", 17) and can make the proclamation: "This is my good and evil" to silence all those who proclaims, "Good for all, evil for all." (Thus Spoke Zarathustra, 194).

As a Nietzschean and someone whose HF's username is Friedrich Nietzsche, I would like to emphasize my Nietzschean view of the psychological transhumanism and the vision of the Übermensch and assert my interest, along with my namesake's profound impact upon transhumanist ideologies.

Are you a passionate learner and want to learn from the best?
Yes, but I must pose one question: will there truly be the best in the group? After all, "best" is 1) very much subjective, someone who's better than you might not be better than me and vice versa 2) very much dependent on who is in the group as well as 3) being very difficult to identify sometimes.
