Made this in VB.NET to help me learn about certain things. Surely someone on here could find a use for it.

You should definety get into the habbit of naming files appropriately and sorting them into folders.
The first thing i do in a new project is delete Form1, make a folder called Forms, then make a new form in there called frmMain/MainWindow (and update program.cs if in c#)

Code-wise

Control.CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCall=False

is a big no-no. Invoke controls if you need to access them across threads.

Your timer_tick code would be more suited inside the txtLimit OnTextChanged event, or even better just replace the txtLimit TextBox it with a NumericUpDown.

Doing numeric maths with a string is bad practice.

Only do maths with numeric types (int/double/decimal/floatetc.) I reccomended using strict mode in VB to help enforce better practice.
