Information
Eclipse is a group based around debating topics that fall within the Science, Religion, Philosophy, and Politics category, as well as generally helping other members around Hack Forums. We do not recruit based on personal politics, rather how you're able to argue your points. You'll also see members of Eclipse creating guides and tutorials in various other sections as our way of contributing to Hack Forums.

Basic Requirements
  • Be active on Hack Forums
  • Be respectful to other members
  • 100 posts minimum
  • No open scam reports

Application
Instead of filling out a normal application, we ask that you give us your opinion on the death penalty in a 150-250 word article.
The position you take on the issue has nothing to do with our selection process and who we decide to invite.

Article: I believe the death penalty is a good thing, why you may ask? because it gives family closure. If someone murdered your family member you would be devastated. You would have hatred towards them and the situation, and although they could be put in jail for the rest of their life it doesn't give you the same closure as putting them to death does. I have always believed in the harambe's code, the whole "an eye for an eye" because i don't believe life in prison is enough to deter people away from committing crimes. Putting someone to death for being convicted of murder would bring a lot more closure then having to be constantly reminded that someone who took the life of a loved one from you is still alive and breathing. Also the death penalty isn't usually used for most of the run of the mill murders its used in the more heinous ones. I believe it promotes a more higher standard that murder is not something to be taken lightly.
Eclipse seems like a great group to be in, from what I've seen all the members are high quality and the tutorials they've been putting out around the forum have been great!

Best of luck with everything boys.

Article: I'm from the UK so have had an upbringing of no/anti death penalty. Despite this I do agree with it but only via Lethal Injection. Electrocution, firing squad, hanging, gas chamber etc I don't agree with. Makes a difficult situation a little bit morbid and more violent than it needs to be, in my opinion. Death penalty is a good option as apposed to life in prison because it is costly to keep such offenders in prison. Also, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. I'm not sure about how "live in prison" works in the US but in the UK "life in prison" is usually 20 years. It's not uncommon to hear of a murderer doing 20 years in prison and given a new identity upon returning to the normal world. That's not life in prison in my books. In my eyes, people that are committing crimes that warrant the death penalty are not likely to be deterred from doing those crimes with the possibility of prison time. They probably will be with the possibility of the death penalty. I wouldn't be upset to see our government introduce it in the UK.

Hello Eclipse Careers team,

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to create such a high-quality group. I understand that you're all very busy individuals, so any time that you've taken out of your day to create and post your recruitment thread is much appreciated.

Personally, I think the death sentence is a meme. I think some countries still need the death penalty because there are simply too many people in the world. We have a population of 6+ billion people, approaching 7 billion now. If we do not do something to drastically curve the population growth, we will run out of resources and all eventually perish. That being said, the only logical assumption to make is to issue out the death penalty for more minor crimes. This would include petty crime such as theft of goods, public urination and drug consumption. This would greatly curve population growth, and thus create a need for the death penalty to address the systematic oppression of mankind by the patriarchal monarchy.

Once again, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to create this recruitment. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reply below, or PM me directly to have a meaningful and insightful discussion. Best of luck in your endeavours, and I look forward to wearing the #Eclipse userbar.

Kind regards,
Neal

Article: I believe the Death Penalty should be a thing, at least in America. If someone is 100% guilty of a crime and there is no uncertainty then they should be put to death. I'd only apply this to murders and other extremely horrific crimes though. No reason the family of the deceased should have to worry about the murderer having the chance to walk free again. I don't see the point of wasting tax payer money on keeping those scum alive when a lot of them do nothing but sit in a cell playing with their dicks. I'm sure if people knew they would get the death penalty for their crimes, they might second guess what they're about to do. It's sad that a lot of places don't even have the death penalty anymore, like what's the point of keeping mass-murders alive? Prisons in the US are starting to become over-populated which means it's a perfect opportunity to kill those who killed.
Good luck to all the applicants!
reality
I can't figure out how to debate. Any tips to be offered for acceptance?
Death penalty is a joke not only because we humans are making a lot of mistakes but because we should be aiming to change people, not kill them regardless of what they did. Nobody is born a "monster". We become like that. If killing is the best solution then i guess hitler was right all along. Its always easier to just kill the "bad" guy. But that doesn't solve the problem, others will take his place and it will never end because you never tried to figure out what the problem was..... the anime psycho pass is a good example.

An eye for an eye will make the world go blind.

The death penalty, in my opinion, is not something that should exist at all. Yes, humans make mistakes. Yes, there are serial killers. However, isn't it enough that they spend their whole life in jail? Who can they harm in jail? The death penalty is useless. If a serial killer is put away and can no longer harm someone without the need to end their life, then why end their life? A lifetime in prison will certainly give them time to think about what they did. There have been many cases of the death penalty being applied over time, but in my opinion, it is useless and a waste of money. We recently read a book in class called In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, which was about 2 murderers with very contrasting personalities and their journey after killing an upper class family in a rural town. In the end, they are hanged as a result of their conviction. To reiterate my previous statements, was this necessary? No, it certainly was not. Their lives didn't have to end at that age. They could have made the best of their lives and learn from their mistakes in prison, where they can get the help they need.

Article: I reckon the Capital punishment is a good thing to use for all them dirty pedo's, rapists and fucked up murderers. If it got well known everywhere that these people would get the Death Penalty, the crimes would drop a lot. Ive noticed from documentaries people love living in prisons, so they don't care about committing crimes then going straight back in to prison, If the other option was a Death Penalty, then nothing might happen.

Article: I support the death penalty to an extent, as I do believe people deserve second chances, as we are humans and tend to make a lot of mistakes in our lives. However, if rehabilitation has been given to the person, but continues to make these horrific acts, then honestly I believe that the death penalty is acceptable. The earth is over-populated, and has no room for such people who would only cause grief to everyone else. Imprisoning someone for a lifetime, might change them as a person, but what then? They will spend the rest of their lives in a cell, in my opinion I would want to save them the time and end it. To conclude, I do support the death penalty as I believe it can serve as a deterrent to people who would think to commit such crimes.
