Policy Question

scammer rep

So i got scammed a few days ago here: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=5744650

Obviously my reports legit w/ screenys, then the guy gave me a neg rep, which is w/e - revenge rep happens, but i checked back today and he had recently edited it to saying i tried to scam him. I'm pretty sure this is against policy rules. Just can anybody confirm this isn't allowed, because it's obviously a false scam accusation because he sees i'm still dealing in the market after he scammed me. I've reported the post and been told i should never pm any admins directly about it. Still new here so idk

From the reputation help doc:"Also, a reputation accusing someone of being a scammer must be followed with a link to the scam report thread that you have made."
If he stated you scammed him he'd have to add a link to the rep to show it's valid. However, he put DWC 'tried to scam' which is allowed.
If the that user had -rep you in the allegation of 'SCAM' he must conclude it with a link and as he have edited the -rep shows he just want a so called legit reason to have revenge you or so.

But if he have proofs for the his allegation, then he should link it and then , my friend you will be called a scammer 🙂

"tried to scam" is invalid.

Oh is it, I thought not. I thought DWC User tried to scam is allowed to be placed. The user didn't exactly scam him which wouldn't have the other user exactly open a dispute and is just warning other users.
Quote:How do I report an invalid scammer reputation?
We suggest you send them a Private Message informing them of site policy and the consequences unless they alter the reputation within 24 hours. Give them that time to alter it. Do not report the reputation to an admin until that 24 hours has passed. Do not threaten the member in the PM. Instead copy/paste this:

I am sending this PM to you because you've given me an invalid scammer reputation. Policy dictates that I send this text to you. HackForums policy requires that all scammer inferences in reputation require a link to a Deal Dispute forum thread that you have created. Either you didn't leave a link or the link you did leave is to a thread not created by you. As such you have 24 hours to alter your reputation to be within policy. Failure to do so will result in your reputation being reported to an admin which can result in severe action against your account. If you'd like to confirm this policy please read this help doc:
//hackforums.net/misc.php?action=help&hid=20

Send the user who left you the invalid rep the bold text above. If he doesn't change it within 24hrs, message Omniscient the rep and it will be removed.

The DWC part is fine but the "tried to scam me" is invalid according to the Help Docs.

refer to this.
A valid scammer rep requires a link to the report, read the Help Docs on rep.

This prevents all your friends from reaping him as a scammer because of 1 report and fake scam reps.
As you can see on the Popularity System, the rep he has given you appears to be invalid.

Quote:What are examples of invalid scammer reputation?
• Ripped me off in a currency exchange in Skype
• This member stole $100 from me
• member has open scam reports
• Multiple account scammer
• scammed my friend
• chargeback on payment
• known scammer
• tried to scam
• took my money and didn't provide service
• this guy is a thief and will rip you off

So the following is what you should be doing:

there is report button right next to reputation, isn't possible to just click it?
I am just asking, I don't know for sure after hackforums update the last days.

You can just click it, yeah, i'm not sure if it works with the recent updates/problems, but it does let you click it + confirm report. I just didn't wanna hit it while not being completely sure about the "tried to scam" aspect of it. Thanks.
I went ahead and contacted him regarding this.

You should do the above. If he ignores you or doesn't respond, you can report him after 24 hours.

It's not really your place to get involved, but I'm sure your efforts are appreciated.

OP, so long as you make sufficient efforts to inform him, he has 24 hours to change the wording of the rep. Otherwise, he will face the consequences. I'd imagine staff will see this thread anyway and deal with him appropriately, but follow site policy and contact staff only after the 24 hours have past and allow them deal with it however they see fit.

"Tried to scam" is textbook invalid rep. You are not allowed to claim any user scammed you, charged back or offered a fraudulent service unless you link a valid deal dispute.

For example, you can leave him a scammer rep so long as you link the deal dispute that YOU made on him. A lot of users confuse this and link a deal dispute opened by someone else; that is still invalid! Only the user who is scammed can call them a scammer so long as a deal dispute is linked. Example: "This user scammed me: [LINK TO DEAL DISPUTE]".
