Delphi tutorial requests

Hey everyone!

So I was thinking about breathing some fresh air in this section.

Post your requests in the topic and I'll do my best to provide a tutorial with full source on the matter.

The said tutorial will most likely contain video, full source and any other explanations where it's necessary. I'll open new threads for each request I'll fulfill.

Hopefully we can get a bit of activity going on here 🤝

ps: pls don't come leaching with things like "code me a full rat" - "make me a software that does this" and so forth, I'm aiming at specific parts of a software solution, not necessarily the whole software a to z just because you're lazy. This would allow you to get passed things that you are stuck on in your projects while also assuring you actually learn and most importantly, understand how it works. That said, I'm not shy on helping out code one from scratch a to z if it's something that doesn't require a whole lot of time or you absolutely can't figure out what to do. Case specific, I guess, so feel free to ask and we will take it from there.

Either way, please do try to organize your request as best as possible to make things clear (post formatting, details on each step, big picture and so forth)

Thanks! 🎉

Requirements for requesting
  • - Must be upgraded: either l33t, 3p1c, ub3r or r3kt
    - No open or unresolved deal disputes
    - Positive overall reputation

but I'm here to give you some ideas and some samples if you need lmk. Good luck! and looking forward to see this section alive again :D

It's a shame really, people here don't seem all that interested in delphi and don't seem to realize it's huge potential.

Still, I'll keep this open and available regardless of when you're reading, hopefully at some point we can get an interest going.

I'll also start posting random short tutorials on various things soon, maybe that will spark an interest.

Thanks for you comment :)

I was about to say, lol. Taking tutorial requests in a section that has under 25 threads active this far into the current year. It's been this dead even since I joined, and Saturn was around two years before I even registered. This isn't a bad idea, though. Anyone that comes to this section and requests a tutorial probably has enough interest to find a use for the language as a whole. I've never focused 100% on Delphi, but have known it works in much the same way as C. (That is, it compiles to native, at least.)

Maybe I should go back and relearn Delphi...

Hence the thread, regardless of activity. I'm trying to account for those who are dissuaded by the fact that the section seems or rather is, for all intensive purposes, dead and just don't post or request stuff thinking it's a waste of time. If there are any, that's great, they can see they got a place here. If not, oh well..:)

Pretty much.

Indeed and Embarcadero is doing a bang up job at maintaining and developing it. With the recent launch of Tokyo 10.2 it's pushing harder into Linux and its also great for developing mobile applications. You kinda have it all really, might want to research a bit and see where its gotten nowadays :)

I highly encourage it 🤝

The last time I'd even done anything in the language (or its counterpart?) had to have been in 2013. I've been using C and C++ because all of the courses I take revolve around them, so everything outside of class always involves C and/or C++.

Back then, however, I didn't use Embarcadero. I've always used FreePascal and have been under the impression that it's just as good for small projects like what I was working on. I never plan to create huge projects because I almost never can put forth the dedication to anything outside of schooling. But I was not as knowledgeable about programming as a whole in 2013, and definitely did not have anywhere near as broad of an understanding as I do now. The whole "Object Pascal" thing has stuck with me, namely because all of the Embarcadero torrents I could find were either infected or incomplete archives. That's why I used FreePascal the whole time and never said "I code Delphi" even though there were just minor differences (if I recall correctly).

I'll look into it. I'm hoping I can jump back in quickly but probably will end up sticking with C and C++ for now because of college. I recall the libraries worked pretty much in the same way as C libraries (picking out the Windows API, at least) and most of the simple issues I came across back then have been noted and solved years back on StackOverflow if not elsewhere. I'm just assuming the threads are still up lol.

Ya one of the main problems with Delphi has always been the lack of tutorials, guides and overall big active communities. Basically popularity. It hasn't really gotten there but it is steadily gaining a foothold and that's ironic considering it's age and power. Nowadays it's a complete solution for pretty much everything and tutorials are more plentiful to say the least.

Must have been nice times, I haven't gotten a chance to touch Lazarus or Pascal and so forth, literally just jumped straight into Delphi when Rad Studio Seattle came out. But yes, as far as I can tell there isn't much difference in them, I've used Pascal/Lazarus code from the internet in the newer versions today and they work great (minor changes here and there whenever needed)

I'll send you a PM with some stuff so we don't lengthen it further in the thread. ;)
Hmu, I can forward you to a HQ delphi coding site that is private. A few of their members are on here as well. Pm me
I really love Delphi but the price tag keeps me away. I did get to use PascalScript at work not too long ago, was kind of fun. I wish the Lazarus IDE would revamp their UI it's a bit painful using it as if I were using Delphi 7 minus the awesomeness of Delphi 7. Used to have a installer for D7 but lost it. Delphi Distiller is probably gone now... Never took the time to fully get into Delphi but I sometimes wish I had. There's still some amazing applications being coded in FreePascal today such as CudaText (amazing text editor compared to Sublime Text) and I heard the Ubuntu settings UI was done in FreePascal. Skype at one point was in Delphi as we all well know. Anyway, wish I had questions on learning more Delphi but I don't even have the right tooling for it. Aside from FreePascal / Lazarus that is. :)

You should check out "Code Typhoon" by a software company known as "Pilot Logic" its Lazarus on steroids and plenty of VCL components Pre-installed for you right out of the box ... things like DSPack and INDY < latest versions and a lot more.

if you choose to check it out keep in mind that there are 2 versions "Big IDE" & "Small IDE"
"They both come in the same download"

The small IDE only has like 8 tabs of VCL components installed.
The Big IDE has tons of stuff pre installed. (database access tools, networking libraries, you name it).
Come on guys Delphi have a huge potential, people need to see it.

Edit im here to help as well if I can.

How to make a simple protection system! :)

I assume you're referring to a licensing system.
Please provide more details as it is a very large area and there are multiple choices and approaches (HWID licensing, for example)
