Policy Question

My brother asked if he can join HackForums

The problem is, we live in the same house so we have the same ip. I read around the policy but couldn't find anything about this.
Is it doable? Are we allowed to have both accounts on HackForums?

I gained so much from HF. He is beginning his journy in programming and I am sure he would benefit as well from this.
just let staff know if he joins and you will be fine.

But people with access to the trust scan wouldn't be alarmed? I've seen so many guys getting neg rep or being avoided because they were "multis"

Trust scan isn't working at the moment.

As long as you let staff know to make a note on the account you should be fine as long as your brother doesn't do anything exceedingly stupid.

Okok. Hmm. Also, would I be allowed to rep him?

I've had like 4 matching IPs once at a time and it didn't effect me at all. Just don't be sketchy and people won't have a problem dealing with you or using a Middleman.

If you rep him, and he scams someone, you might end up in some shit. Just saying.

Yes, why would you not be able to?

If you feel he deserves it 😏
If your brother makes an account you should PM staff to put a note on your account. Even with the note there, your chances of getting in trouble still increase. If he does something stupid there's a chance you could be investigated.

You can rep him if you want. Note that this further connects you to him.

When the Trust Scam is fixed, upgraded members will see that you have a matching IP. This may discourage members from dealing with you. If members see this and give you a neutral or negative reputation for it, that in and of itself is not considered reputation abuse.

This will be even worse for your brother. New accounts with matching IPs are highly suspect of being multis. Your reputation (assuming that you explain he's your brother) on him could help dissuade this though.

In the end it's simply a matter of how much you trust your brother. I joined after my roommate recommended the site to me, so we had matching IPs for awhile. We eventually moved in with a third member so we all had two other matching IPs. Nothing ever happened to us because nobody did anything stupid.

Everything Steve stated above is correct. According to previous cases with the same scenario, basically you will be considered one entity - if you or your brother commits a major offense, chances are very high that both of you will be penalized, regardless of who actually did it.

PM staff so they can make a note on your accounts.

Yep, I have a friend who occasionally visits and he created his own account. Minimalist very kindly added a note to both of our accounts specifying that.

Where is the note added? On the Trust Scan page?
Yep, I have also got my brother on here for a pretty long time now. Haven't had any problems.

It'll be on your profile page. I believe below your signature. Only moderators can see it.
