Does anybody have experience using the Google Search API?

I'm using this to search

service = build("customsearch", "v1", developerKey=api_key)
result = service.cse().list(q=search, cx=cse_id).execute()

However, in result, I get different answers every time I run it, and the total result # entry is always saying 0.

Any ideas?

That's how I got to where I am haha.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
