A Little More Lounging Around
Following a recent thread posted by Omniscient, a new award was introduced to the members of Hack Forums known as the "Lounge Head" award. While exact details of the award have yet to be posted, a set of possible award requirements were released leading to a massive surge of activity within the Lounge section. Avid award seekers raced to be the first to obtain the coveted award, having upwards of 700 posts throughout the remainder of the day; however, were extremely dismayed to learn actual implementation of the award had yet to be finished. >>post

Process Able to Make Wood as Strong as Steel
At the University of Maryland, scientists have developed a procedure to make the stronger woods as strong as steel as well as some titanium-alloys. The process is not only simple but inexpensive as well. The article also postulates that wood enhanced by this procedure could be used as body armor as well as larger buildings. The process has been dubbed as "densifying" the wood. Many have tried to get this right before, but previously "densified" wood would spring back to its original position, humidity would further exacerbate this. Their two-step process starts by boiling the wood in a mixture of hydroxide and sodium sulfite. Next, they compress the wood to make its cell walls collapse. >>Source
Perceptions of Cannabis are Shifting
This will not be an extremely long one, but I believe it is important to document here. The study in question focused on adults in Oregon just before the sale of legal cannabis began. The results of this study were fairly intriguing. Many of those polled believed that alcohol was just as harmful to a person as cannabis. About half of those polled believed that alcohol was more harmful than cannabis. Also, those using either of the two believed that alcohol was worse for the body. This is indicative of the way public opinion is headed about cannabis, it doesn't look like the train will be slowing anytime soon. >>Source
Engineers at Stanford Complete Breakthrough Study in Renewable Energy
Many of you may not be aware that the most significant issue with renewable energy sources we currently face is the inconsistency of the supply with a reasonably static demand. The team at Stanford's research would make renewable energy sustainable enough to power 139 countries across the globe. They way they went about doing this is fascinating. Researchers grouped nations into an energy roadmap then divided that up by geopolitical needs. They then used two proprietary programs to model the predicted future weather patterns and a variety of other variables pertaining to natural energy yield. All we need now are nations to step up to the plate and commit to renewable energy in a big way, >>Source
Trump Signs bill to end Government Shutdown
During early Friday morning, President Trump signed a significant budget deal to reopen the government for the second time this year. The House voted was 240-186, with the “in-favor of” obviously being the conclusion of this vote. Of the 240 votes for, 73 of those were provided by Democratic representatives – of the 186 against, 67 of those were provided by Republican representatives. The bill has been in development for an innumerable number of months and is planned to clear “the decks for Congress in dealing with major spending issues as well as doling out disaster relief money and hiking the debt ceiling which was set to be reached next month.” President Trump initially had a budget bill ready for voting, but after a drawn-out speech provided by Republican Senator Rand Paul, the bill was partially scrapped and redone throughout the late hours of the night and early Friday morning. A portion of the bill, per Donald Trump, is supposed to give “the Pentagon an addition $16 billion, [which] was a ‘big victory’ for the US military,” but further stating that House Republicans were “’forced to increase spending’” to accumulate votes from the Democrats. >>Source
Cape Town Water Crisis
Cape Town, a capital of South Africa, has been facing a water crisis known as “Day Zero.” Day Zero refers to something much larger than a shortage – Cape Town is on the brink of losing all of its water. On May 11, the South African government has dubbed “Day Zero,” which is when they are expecting to limit off all sources to water aside from the government-run areas such as schools. Along with this, hospital and clinics will “be exempt from the cutoff and will continue to have access to running water.” Cape Town has not always faced a water disparity, however. In 2015, Cape Town was rewarded with a “prestigious international award for its water conservation policies,” though within those three years, a painstaking drought had made its way into the megacity. The city heavily relied on rainwater, but seeing as there was no fall happening, this uncovered a substantial exploit in their water supply. Ninety-nine percent of Cape Town’s water supply is provided from rainfall, meaning that there was no feasible back-up plan such as “underground aquifers.” >>Source
Successful Launch of "Heavy Falcon"
On Tuesday, February 6, SpaceX’s launch of the Falcon Heavy booster successfully executed. The launch took place at Kennedy Space Station located in Florida – the same “pad used for NASA’s Apollo missions.” This is most definitely not the end, or pinnacle for SpaceX founder Elon Musk. In a statement provided by Elon, he provided information stating that there would be astronaut-guided launches with their “Dragon spacecraft,” as well as preparing for the “Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) for potential tests in 2019.” Falcon Heavy, possibly one of SpaceX’s most significant feats, has been in production for nearly seven years and has had $500 million spent on its ultimate production. A huge significance of Falcon Heavy is its carry capacity – it “can carry twice as much payload as its closest competitor (United Launch Alliance's Delta IV Heavy) at a lower cost, and its three first-stage boosters are designed to be reusable.” Being the most powerful and heaviest functioning rocket, the giant can carry “up to 141,000 lbs. of payload into orbit.” As an ironic joke, Elon Musk sent his $200,000 “Tesla Roaster” into orbit, accompanied by the driver, “Star Man.” >>Source
Chrome Brands HTTP "Not Secure" After July
As the Secure Socket Layer security technology is being advocated for by a large number of organizations and individuals alike, browser developers have taken measures to finally seal the last nail on the coffin. Chrome 68, due for release in July, will start showing the "Not secure" label in the address bar for websites that are still on the insecure HTTP protocol. It should be said that no one has an excuse to not implement SSL in their website since free and community-based services like LetsEncrypt provides free SSL certificates for servers and websites that are recognized by most of the latest browsers in the market. According to Google, 81 of the top 100 sites on the World Wide Web use HTTPS by default, and that 68 percent of Chrome traffic on Android and Windows uses HTTPS. As such, it is expected for other browsers to be taking similar measures to eradicate the issue of transmitting unencrypted content over the Internet. >>Source
GitHub Ordered to Remove iOS Source Code Leak
Earlier this week, a portion of Apple's iOS source code was leaked on GitHub, a popular web-based source code management service. Although Apple filed a DMCA report and took the code repository down, the source code rapidly spread through the Internet throughout various forums and text storage websites. As described by online news journal Motherboard, the leaked code was reportedly known to be the iOS' "BIOS" system, otherwise known as "iBoot." It is responsible for starting up the system when the phone is turned on, and also makes sure that the startup code being run is valid and certified by Apple. The leak could potentially allow exploiters to discover new iOS vulnerabilities more easily, thus leading to newer operating system "jailbreaks" being released by several online communities. In addition to the takedown notice, Apple itself confirmed that the leaked source code contained legitimate code that is still being used till this day. Apple told TechCrunch in a statement, “Old source code from three years ago appears to have been leaked but by design, the security of our products doesn’t depend on the secrecy of our source code. There are many layers of hardware and software protections built into our products.”
Almost as if this surprising news can't get more surprising, a new report by Motherboard also suggested that a former Apple intern leaked the source code to a closed group of friends, which then went out of control to become what is known as Apple's greatest blunder till date. >>Source 1 >>Source 2 >>Source 2
Uber and Waymo Reach Settlement
In a surprising turn of events, Waymo and Uber have reached a settlement after months of fighting against each in a series of courtroom cases. While the case is being dismissed with prejudice, the cause behind the motive that led to the settlement is still unknown. Uber will give 0.34% of its equity to Waymo, with Uber having a $72 billion company evaluation. This means that Waymo will receive a lump sum of over $244 million. In a statement made by Waymo, “We have reached an agreement with Uber that we believe will protect Waymo’s intellectual property now and into the future. We are committed to working with Uber to make sure that each company develops its own technology. This includes an agreement to ensure that any Waymo confidential information is not being incorporated in Uber Advanced Technologies Group hardware and software. We have always believed competition should be fueled by innovation in the labs and on the roads and we look forward to bringing fully self-driving cars to the world.”

New Raids on Japanese Exchanges Following Coincheck Hack
Following a massive hack that saw cyber thieves stealing USD $530 million in virtual currency (NEM) from well-known cryptocurrency service Coincheck, Japan carried out raids on a number of cryptocurrency exchanges operating under its vicinity. The hack prompted authorities to search these firm's offices, with the Finance Minister Taro Aso mentioning that the raids were intended to "examine their internal governance structure." The Coincheck hack also prompted the Japanese authorities to implement a much more stricter regulation on cryptocurrency trading, in an effort to prevent the aforementioned hack from occuring again in a more frequent manner. >>Source

Before you ask, yes people still play this game. December of last year Niantic decided to push out an update where they added 50 Pokemon from the Hoenn region. This brought back a lot of activity to the game and many people wanted the cool starters like Cyndaquill. On Jan. 23 Niantic decided to add twenty-three more Pokemon to the game that is also from the Hoenn region. Legendary Pokemon are also available to capture. Groudon and Kyogre are available to capture until Feb. 14 so you better get exploring! Metroid Prime 4 For Nintendo Switch Being Developed
If you have/had a crush on Samus than you soon be able to get the chance to reunite with her. During the week, Bandai Namco released an announcement that they are working on Metroid Prime 4 which will be released on the Nintendo Switch. Those who keep up to date with gaming news may have heard that a Metroid Prime game was going to be made, but at the time of that announcement last year at the gaming convention E3, there was no information on who would develop it. Recently Nintendo had a discussion with Bandai Namco where they finalized the deal allowing Bandai Namco to work on the game. As of now, it has not been said when the game will be released. A remastered version of Dark Souls 3 is coming soon too as well. Switch players will have the chance to also play that while they are waiting for Metroid Prime 4 to be released. >>Source
My Little Pony-Inspired Fighting Game Them's Fightin' Herds Gets a Release Date
Of course, not everyone is a fan of the children show My Little Pony since, well, it is meant for kids. There are certain individuals who are over nine who still enjoy the show and everyone is into different things so we really should not judge. Whether you love or hate the ponies there is a beat-em-up arcade-style game that will be coming soon. The game is titled, "Them's Fightin' Herd's" and will be based on the children show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. That is a weird combination, right? The game itself is not related to the show at all and has no connection to Lauren Faust the creator of MLP. You do not really see children's game contain that much violence, but since a majority of the people watching the movie today are young adults then it is safe to say that will not be a problem for parents anyway. Indiegogo is a crowdfunding website similar to popular crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter. The fundraiser for the making of this game started Oct. 2015 and the team made over $600,000 in donations. The game will be in stores this month on the 22. Players will choose from many different animals and fight arcade-style like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. >>Source
Gal*Gun 2 Game Refused Age Classification in Germany
The first installment in the Gal*Gun series was released in Japan on Aug. 6 of last 2015. It took over one year for the game to be rated and remastered for foreign countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. Most recently there was a classification process in Germany for the latest game in the series, Gal*Gun 2. A classification process is similar to how the United States must have their games rated by the ESRB and the United Kingdom to have their games rated by PEGI. A surprise for some, Gal*Gun 2 was not rated at all. In fact, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (Entertainment Software Self-Regulation or USK) refused to rate the game essentially banning it from Germany. That should be pretty obvious what that means but for those who do not understand you cannot purchase the game at all in Germany. The funny thing is that the USK approved the sale first game but are denying the sequel. The game is not as much different as the first so why it was banned is unknown. Good news for those who do have access to purchasing the game! It will be not only available for PS4 but for the Nintendo Switch too! During its Japan release, you will have the option to get it on March 15. When it will be coming to the UK or USA is unknown, but you will have the option to buy from a Japanese reseller willing to ship out to other countries. This may cost more so waiting might be worth it. The trailer is pretty lewd to link based on Hack Forums rules, but if you enjoy pretty anime girls in cute schoolgirl outfits and lingerie, you will like this game. >>Source
Aikatsu Friends! Anime's Promo Video Introduces Main Characters
A spin-off was announced for the popular idol anime, Aikatsu, and is titled, "Aikatsu Friends!" A promotional video was made to show off the main characters of the anime. Aine Yūki is enrolled in Star Harmony Academy. Aine has a very open personality allowing her to make friends easily. She makes friends with Mio Minato who is the most popular girl in the school as well as the most talented idol in Star Harmony Academy. Soon enough, Aine becomes interested in idols and her journey to learn how to become one starts. In addition, another video was made promoting the Data Carddass arcade game where the anime for this series as well as the main series (Aikatsu) were originally created from. The promotional videos can be found here and here. The Aikatsu series is about a middle school girl named Ichigo Hoshimiya. One day she attends an idol concert with her best friend Aoi Kiriya who absolutely loves idols. After the concert, Ichigo was able to appreciate the dedication that Aoi had for idols and soon realizes that she likes them too. One day Aoi announced to Ichigo that she was going to join an idol academy called the Starlight School. The school is female only and entrance exams are pretty tough, however, Aoi and Ichigo are able to pass them and soon enough will becoming idols in training. In the original Aikatsu series, there are four seasons. >>Source
Horny Mech Anime Focuses On Couplings That Could Save The World
Does Darling In The Franxx bring fanservice to a whole new level? The anime takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Teenagers are the protectors of the world they live in and use mecha machines called franxx in which they pilot to fight off evil monsters. This whole anime brings lewd to a new term. The whole show is about sex even if you never realized it. In order to pilot the franxx, it requires a male and a female. The anime uses the flower reproductive system to determine the pilots which clearly shows how sexual it is. For example, the males are the stamens while the female pilots are pistils. Continuing the explanation of how lewd (but great) this anime is, the females bend over on all fours in the cockpit. The males sit behind them and use a handle that is connected to the girl pilot's butt. Zero Two is currently entering the waifu zone for many anime fans. Have you already added her to your list or made her your best girl? You will have to watch the anime to learn more about what you just read. You also have to watch to understand why everyone loves Zero Two so much. Maybe you will enjoy it or maybe you will absolutely hate it. >>Source
