[Suggestion] Allowing Regulated Discord Groups

I do understand the reason behind the Discord advertisement ban and I agree with it, Discord can impact forums quite a bit become it can be used as an alternative to a forum.

I do feel that we are missing a live chat and voice chat, especially in groups and since Skype discontinued the good client I think the only good alternative is Discord.

Allowing Discord advertisement on the forum isn't a solution because the same problem will occur.

I came to an idea that there would be OFFICIAL Discord group servers, I don't believe they would affect the forum activity because there would only be a limited amount of them and they would be regulated.

Each official group on HF would be allowed to create one Discord Server for voice chat reasons and one #main channel on the Discord Server to be used as a lounge.

What do you think? Is this a good idea?
Same result bro, the activity will be redirected on that discord server.

I doubt a Discord server with thousands of members who only have access to 2 channels will be easy to manage. You'd have to rely on third parties and less reputable members to observe the chat 24/7. It'll just cause trouble if you ask me.

Thousands of members?

Keep in mind, only the people from the official HF group will have access to it.

With regulated, I mean that the Discord server would only be allowed to have a #lounge channel for text so it doesn't replace important sections on HF.

I don't believe that rule would be broken because the server would be maintained by the group owners.
The reason a lot of groups failed is because they had active Discord groups.

You're basically beating up the already dead group scene on Hack Forums, just as it's making a recovery.
With the discord ban, on-site activity has improved, particularly with groups. Trust me, group discords weren't actually as enjoyable as the forum. They may have been more efficient.

I don't like this idea and I feel like it'd take activity away from groups - A lot of group owners already banned Discord long ago from their groups. What makes you think that group owners (*Divined*) is going to want to have a discord for their/his group(s)?

Again, as what I've said to my first reply, you're going to redirecting the activity on that discord server instead on the forum.

No, this won't happen. In my opinion the discord ban came in too late already as it did take a lot of activity away from HF.
Discord is a nice voice chat application but the server feature is going to take activity away from the forum. It's something you can't avoid unless discord advertizing stays banned.

The rule is pretty simple though, any competing website can't be advertised on this forum.

Remember that time Tumblr tried to bring voice/text chat onto the website? Wow, that went well.

Maybe HF could do a group chat on-site, like those webcam group things did, the group chats there. A page for each group where they can AFK talk. The group forums are hidden away from both the main site and Google anyway, so a drop in activity there wouldn't really matter.

But I am not in a group, so I no longer care.
It's a stupid suggestion because it takes activity away from the forum. You can't appeal a change by 'suggesting' a new thing-- it's the same thing, basically to bring back Discord to the forum, which was banned for a reason.

A better alternative would be integrated XMPP on-site. I do understand the need for instant messaging but it can't be at the cost of forum activity. Especially if it's a 3rd party service.

Also, doesn't Discord ban "hacking" channels? It's likely any official channel setup even if the discussion is benign will get reported and the channel banned.

They ban server directly related to the sales of game cheats/hacks.
Discussion is fine, but using it as a point-of-sale is banned.

yes it was used to drive traffic away from hf
thanks for stating the obvious

its not coming back op. think about if u were omni and had a forum then all of a sudden users are leaving your site for a skype knockoff. you would disallowed it as well.
I don't think allowing off-site advertisements for instant messaging should ever come back. I do think that if Omni were to add some on-site feature though, that would be great.

I don't see the problem with Discord servers being banned because I see how it takes away forum activity.

I do not like that we aren't allowed to advertise our Discord usernames so we can communicate with users through Discord just like we do with Skype. Not even in a server.

Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
Don't think this would end well if there were an "Official" discord group. How will you regulate users and rules? Will HF rules apply there? How will you know someone is who they say they are?
I don't see the need of it... It's just better to create a special HF instant message. Or even a chat room where you can create one to one messaging.
