Most students tell me they don’t read reviews on a regular basis, but that they do watch online videos. Find a classical music performance on YouTube.com and write your own one-page double-spaced review. Be sure your performers are visible. In other words, don’t review a performance in which the music is in the background for random video footage. The one-page, double-spaced review of the event should include identification of the event (who, what, when, where, etc.), and consist exclusively of your objective observations (facts), and your subjective observations (feelings and thoughts). This is not a research paper and should not include any ideas from outside sources. Don’t forget to provide the URL of the performance you viewed and heard. You should start your search with the name of a composer, a performer, or a type of piece (genre). Do not search using the words “Classical music” – it will be too difficult to sort through the 13 million results!
