But would that be worth it? Just call the police and leave them to deal with it.

I'm so scared of the future so I stay stuck, broken in to pieces and my spirit's all taped up.

Know what the police will tell you?
"Take it to civil court."
Police don't care about someone robbing you unless it happens in broad daylight on the street. Get robbed online? File a report, and hope somethings miraculous happens where they actually look at it.

In the UK I doubt it would happen like that, surely there’s some sort of law against stealing money online?

I would probably try to find out as much information on this person as I can. Once I have information on this person, I would definitely confront them in a situation created by me, which will be almost impossible for the perp to get out of.
Example: I would show up to their work place and seem like an interested party in their services. Will let them take the process way down the road and then pop the question about how they plan to pay me back for the money the scammed me. At that point, they would have more to lose than 1k, so chances are high for them to cough up a solid plan right then and there.
Someone tried to scam me for a car. Paid him check, dude sold me a salvaged car, with the carfax being fake. I made sure he paid me back my money.

UK seems to do much better at Cyber Crimes. In the USA the Police mostly deal with crimes IRL, federal agencies get involved with investigations into online crimes.
Not enough feds to go around solving every little petty crime, and civil disagreement on the internet. Which is why a lot of FBI busts are long term, big operation busts.

I can imagine this happening and you being ruthless. I'd watch it that's for sure.

Go invite him to dinner and forgive him. That would be the right thing to do.

Hmm, it does certainly seem like they get more involved in it.

Calling the cops and letting them know is probably the best thing i would have done.
Defenitly wouldnt go near his house to beat him or something like that - only cause more trouble..
Good deeds make a long distance.

Good thing you already brought the vehicle now there is no need to call for one.
You are saving these people time you sir are the true hero.
Honestly that would be ironic. Seeing an EMT pull up to you beat your ass and then take you to the hospital.
I'd seriously be super confused I don't think I'd even have the right to get angry.
