Obtain Router Password

Hey guys, hope you are all well.
Need some help in getting access to my router (asus dsl-ac68u).
Long story short…. Landlords son has brought a new router and I’m 90% sure he is throttling my connection. Changed my mac address on my LAN connection and download speed on steam and uTorrent peaked. Out of curiosity, I want to gain access to see what he’s been doing. I’ve tried the traditional passwords admin/admin, admin/password, admin/12345 and so on.

My first attempt I tried using ettercap to sniff out the password, as the 192.168.1.1 is not secure. I tried on wifi but no luck then switched to LAN and did a dummy run on my PC on testfire (demo.testfire.net), which was successful and picked up the username and password. I tried a dummy run on accessing the router login screen and tried admin/admin to see if ettercap would pick up the details, but failed. Anybody able to shed some light onto this, am I missing something….

I believe my next step would be to bruteforce using hydra or burp suite, would anybody be able to give me some advice on how to use hydra or burp suite.

Thanks
Have you considered talking to him about it or just asking the router web interface password?
well the default is admin/admin for that type of router.
so the username is properly still admin.
if you wanna brute that's the username to go with.
But I agree with Angels Binding. Just ask the guy.
Here is a list on default router logins and passwords: http://www.routerpasswords.com/

If you want to pwn the router (need to be on the same network as the router): http://www.routerpwn.com/
If u search on internet you will get some intersting result bro, good luck ;)

I think you can use hydra on kali linux to bruteforce the password. Kali also comes with a decent worldlist called r0ckyou.

+1 if you are paying for internet you shouldn't be throttled by your landlord especially if it's in your leasing contract ..

Not every technical issue has to be resolved with something akin to cyber criminality.
Many technical issues can be resolved quite peacefully - like letting your landlord know internet has been slow lately and asking if - with your technical skills - you can have a look at the router settings.

Quite true and yes it's would be criminal to access a device for which you don't own or have expressed permission to do so .If the landlord decides to throttle you then you can have legal recourse not everything is just hacking my way through things.
Don't expect this forum to be very helpful. A majority of us are just untechnical advisors of law and common sense. If I were you, I would end up making sure the connections your intercepting with ettercap are the right ones, and make sure there isn't a setting you are missing. Ettercap for me has always been a little alusive as a network tool. Best of luck though, some landlords just don't know when to quit.
