So I know that there is a limit on the amount of attempts you can edit a thread (which is currently set at 15) which was put in place to reduce the attempts by scammers to edit their thread to destroy evidence of their scams. However, it poses as somewhat of an inconvenience, for example currency exchangers, who constantly edit their threads to reflect their current inventory. As of now, I tried to edit my currency exchange thread to update my new stock only to find out that I have hit the limit on the number of times I can edit my thread. I know I can just post a new reply with my new inventory, but a majority of users just read the main thread post and assume that the post shows current stock (speaking from experience when dealing with several people). I honestly do not know what the best policy is, because I see the benefit of enacting a limit. Yet at the same time, it does cause an inconvenience to those who are trying to do so for business purposes. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this?

Policy Question
Editing Threads |
|
1. It has nothing to do with scammers and everything to do with destroying the content of the site.
2. Direct your customers to check the last post or use a link like https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?ti...id=2807875 which will show all of your posts on a thread. I'll try and see if I can have a staff member just edit my thread to say "check last post" in the OP or implement the link as you mentioned Thank you for providing feedback, much appreciated (Apr 14, 2018 11:53 AM)Baba Yaga Wrote: I'll try and see if I can have a staff member just edit my thread to say "check last post" in the OP or implement the link as you mentioned Better implement that link. Don't PM us as that's unfair to others. Quote:Can I PM Staff to ask them to change my username, edit my post, junk my threads or other similar tasks?
Staff member 10th Jan 2017 - 30th May 2020.
HF Administrator 30th May 2020 - 14th July 2022. It was a blast being on staff. I stepped down as it's time for me to move on. I wish you all the best and if you were hit by my warnings and/or bans, it was nothing personal. Peace out! That way, the images embedded in your post will change without you actually editing the post. That is adtually an amazing idea.

Good way to get images banned for everyone. (Apr 15, 2018 08:27 AM)Nachfolger Wrote: Smart idea. It will actually worsen the situation that he was trying to solve by far; less content.

(Apr 15, 2018 08:37 AM)Nachfolger Wrote: Does this not defeat the exact reason that the edit limit was enacted for? How does it destroy content from the site? When people edit their threads, they’re doing it to remove all the content from their threads. That was the whole reason for the plugin. When they use an image, they are simply changing what the text says in their threads. It would work they same way if they decided in the long run to completely remove the image, or edit the text to say “thread removed”, or any other lingo to remove the thread contents. That would still be considered removing content and against the rules. (Apr 15, 2018 08:42 AM)Biggy Wrote: How does it destroy content from the site? Just to get back on this If the 15-edit rule was implemented to enforce the content rule then it means that people weren't following it. Posting an image instead of text is much worse because try to imagine the amount of visitors that get on HF because of SEO and keywords - all these posts won't show up if the thread includes an image solely The 15 edit rule becomes literally useless if people start adapting to using images
Note that by having content in a thread which is an off-site image which changes is just fine to me.
This is under the assumption that the thread has some content which will be search indexed otherwise the thread won't come up in searches. One big issue is content being on HF which is then indexed by search engine crawlers and later altered to be crap. Imagine you're at Google and you search for something and an HF result comes up and you go to the page and it says "CLOSED" or "DELETED" that's not how we're going to attract members and it's an easy way to annoy Googlebot. So I'm fine with SOME of the content in a thread being an image which is updated. And as Xerotic noted we'll be updating the plugin shortly to include special limits based on certain criteria. |
