google chrome showing lots of instances

this is what my task manager looks like with just one tab open in chrome

i've done virus scans and only have one extension (ad blocker) so I'm not sure why this is happening
Nothing on chrome://apps or chrome://extensions?

I started using uBlock Origin because of how much slower adblock was making chrome for me. Might be the adblocker. Remove it and test again?

nope and that is ublock origin
Create an HTML doc with just <h1>Hi</h1>. Then close chrome and open that file. See how many processes you have then.

Something to think of.
Probably nothing, all browsers love to have a ton of subprocess

Firefox (0 Tabs open, 0 Extensions) - 5 Total Processes

Opera [Chromium Based Browser] (17 Tabs, 6 Extensions [17+6=23]) - 27 Total processes

I have that as well even if I have only one tab open, it's nothing to worry about.
My browser has a ton of instances. This is normal as most browsers are running background apps and scripts and extensions definitely add to that list.
Would bookmarks affect the # of instances? Cause on that comp I have shit tons

I don't believe so. Maybe mirror the chrome installation with another machine and compare. I believe its because of how chrome runs multiple things. Which is why I suggested the HTML page. It shouldn't load any extra extensions. Which should be minimal instances.
I think that's the add-ons? I get more for each add-on I install but I might be wrong..

Shift + Tab on Chrome will give you each process and what it does
