Hello HF,
I am starting my own mining operation, have been reading a lot lately but I think its best to hear some expert's opinion. Is GTX 1080 good enough to mine any currency, I would like to mine XMR, XVG, ZEC and some small low market cap coins. Since I am just starting so would like to know is it possible or should I just stick with one coin that suits the GPU?

It's good enough. But one is not enough. You need at least 12 of 1080s I believe, Or at least 6 of TITAN X GPUs. Statistically, the most profitable mining coin is monero as of now. But i'd not suggest you to do it unless you know what you're doing.

Yup, I will keep adding more after setting everything up.
I would like to know which ever GPU i buy, will I be able to check different coins by mining them for a week or two and see which one is better?
How do people find low market cap coins in early stage and mine loads of them..?

AMD cards are cheaper and better for XMR. Nvidia 1080's would be what I get because they hash well and use less power. Nvidia is great for Equihash and ETH, but AMD is better (cost per hash wise) for ETH. I would personally go with AMD Rx 570's but resale value is much lower because they are older cards.

similar to nicehash; automatically switches algorithm to most profitable coin to mine at the time.

They pay you out in BTC, regardless of what you mine.

RX 580 8GB have a better ROI than GTX 1080s. Also GTX 1070TI has better roi than 1080 aswell. But RX580 is the killer for both so if you wanna build a rig use those.
Get 8GB only so you can sell in the future!

Honestly if I were you, I would wait around a little bit before buying a ton on 1080s. The next gen cards are coming soon. Those will more than likely be much better individually, and drown out the profitability for 1080 owners a bit due to the increased hashrate being added from the release of those cards.
