Best place to learn C++

Starting my university course this week and the language I'll be learning is C++. Would be cool if i could finish in the top 3 of my class as I'd be able to get a good placement.

Anyone know the best place to learn C++ as its one of my modules.

^ This is a PDF file of the textbook I use.
There are newer versions I believe, which you can buy. But this one is free. =-)

P.S. I recommend learning Java first, as java is much easier then C++ when it comes to debugging. (Use eclipse for java).

I learned C++ first and then Java, and I struggled with C++ a lot before learning Java.

There is no "best" place to learn C++.

Everyone finds different content useful and have their own learning preferences. You have to find content which works and is right for you, be it through online reading material, hard-copy books, videos, etc.

My recommendation would be to read a book on C++ and follow it from there on, but this may or may not work for you. It depends on you as an individual.

Learn from Ebooks- Get a copy of "C Programming language by Dennis Ritchie". You will learn better by reading books.
My advise is learn C first. It's simpler then C++ and if you understood the basics of C you will learn C++ pretty fast.

The best place always depends on the personality. Some people love to learn with books, other ones with video courses and so on.
You have to figure out what is the best for you.

My book recommendation is C++ Primer. I learned a lot with it and it's still a good source to look up some stuff.
well for starters if you are interested in learning c++ from books here is the list
stackoverflow[dot]com/questions/388242/the-definitive-c-book-guide-and-list (replace [dot] with .)

I personally started from "Accelerated C++ (Andrew Koenig and Barbara Moo)" This books is slightly outdated as the code in the book and the concepts are written using c++98 and its written for people having some previous programming exprience . However its gonna give you excellent introduction of high level parts of c++ rather than writing in OLD C . This is cruciel because c++ as of c++17 the way we write code in c++. is so much different from c way for example concepts LIKE RAII, CONSTEXPR, LAMBDA, templates, standardized thread models etc.

As of now would recommend reading The C++ Programming Language, 4th edition By Bjarne STROUSTRUP ( creater of c++) its written for novice and experts it will be an excellent point to start.

Plus you can also try to write some small libraries as you go on . to gain practical experience

You can also look on website en.cppreference for declarations and new features its really good

As for compiler you can use GCC, MSVC on windows
CLANG, and GCC in UNIX OR MAC OS

An advice if you actually wanna write quality code and fast code you should become familiar with tooling like debugger, and sanitizers and tools like PERF (linux only).

I think its best. Very good explainations, Many examples and not only examples. you can find very good and already tested functions, many custom libraries e.t.c.
Like many other suggestions, I think you should learn through a book. Many other places will show you the code and how to write it, but not go through why everything is the way that it is. You'll gain a better understanding of what's going on under the hood which will be useful later on. I used "Starting Out with C++ from Control Structures to Objects". Good luck!
I would highly recommend Programming: Principles and Practice using C++ (Second Edition) book by Bjarne Stroustrup even if you already know programming. Warm introduction to the language itself, syntactics, paradigms, etc.

How well do you know programming right now? OOP? coercion? overloading? memory management? inheritance? etc
C++ is the best language in the world bruh

just keep reading and try to practice everytime you learn something new
I am also trying to learn how.
I guess we could keep reading around!
Good luck to you.
