And yes you need to choose where you do your hosting it's your money it's your VPS, in fact most providers are hands off the customer manages the server (This was the policy where I worked and if you wanted a tech to do things that's cool get ready to pay a good price for that, so yes you need to learn this stuff) Edit: Just so you are aware you will need to at least generate ssh key of course if you are allowing root via ssh get ready for a bad day.
