Turkey claims to have audio and video of Saudi journalist being tortured and killed inside Saudi Consulate
2 October 2018, Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi entered Saudi Arabia’s Istanbul consulate to obtain files pertaining to his divorce with his ex-wife, where he has not been seen since. Turkish sources were quick to get on this, telling several media outlets they believe Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Arabia, was “killed inside the consulate,” which they describe it as ‘premeditated murder.’ Though Saudi officials fired back quickly refuting the claim, saying the journalist left the building prior to vanishing. As a result of this, United States relations with Saudi Arabia and not too friendly at the moment. President Trump states, that if the Saudis are responsible for this murder, there will be ‘severe punishment’ for Saudi Arabia. British Parliament members are calling for a thorough investigation, along with Turkey and their request to search the consulate; however, there has been no visible or known cooperation on Saudi Arabia’s side just yet.
Being that this is such a serious case, the outcome of this situation could potentially transform Saudi ties with top countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Serious implications are pending; however, the UK has made its opinion very clear. A letter written by Mark Menzies, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group, wrote a letter calling for a ‘thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Mr. Khashoggi, and stand ready to support all authorities in their inquiries.’ This letter was signed by 13 MPs. >>Source
Scientists politely urge 'act now, idiots'; It's the final call, say scientists, the most extensive warning yet on the risks of rising global temperatures
Scientists are saying it’s the last call for climate control. Their published report is saying that the world is “completely off track” and is heading towards “3 degrees C.” Although the preferred action of keeping the temperature 1.5C “above pre-industrial levels” would be very expensive, the opportunity remains tangible. This report contains three years of research and days’ worth of debating between scientists and government officials at a recent meeting in South Korea. After being brief on all of the discovered information, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) “has issued a special report on the impact of global warming of 1.5C.” The three-year summary on recent and highly probably climate change consisted of 33 pages. Within this “Summary for Policymaker,” contains “hallmarks of difficult negotiations” for climate researchers that stick with their discoveries and political representatives bearing economies and living standards in mind.
Regardless of foreseeable compromises, multiple valid points were translated loud and clear. ‘The first is that limiting warming to 1.5C brings a lot of benefits compared with limiting it to two degrees. It really reduces the impacts of climate change in very important ways,’ said Prof Jim Skea, co-chair of the IPCC. Prof Skea continued with, ‘the second is the unprecedented nature of the changes that are required if we are to limit warming to 1.5C - changes to energy systems, changes to the way we manage land, changes to the way we move around with transportation.’ >>Source
