Hello, yesterday I built my new PC. It was all fine until I went to install Windows. No drives appeared for Windows to install to. So, I went into BIOS and saw that it said the M.2 slot was empty. In the BIOS settings, I couldn't find anything related to M.2 SSDs, only for SATA slots.
This is what I have done so far:
  • I tried changing XMP profiles

  • Switching between AHCI/RAID mode

  • Switching between Windows 10HQL/CSM

  • Switching between EUFI and EUFI+Legacy boot

  • Updating BIOS

  • Reseating my M.2 SSD

  • Installed Windows on a 2.5" SSD, checked Device Manager and Disk Management. No signs of my M.2 SSD.

Not sure what to do next. I sent an e-mail to MSI and Samsung but I am willing to try anything in the meantime.
1) Download latest Bios

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK

2) If that does not work try disconnecting every other Sata Drive until you install Windows

3) Make sure your on AHCI not Raid
I tried this and unfortunately, it did not fix the issue.
Is your BIOS on PC start taking way longer than expected? (i mean before windows pops up)

No, it seems fine.
Check out "PCIe SlotX lanes configuration" and see if there is anything can be helpful and needs to be changed.

It gave me the option to change it from x16 to x4x4x4x4. So I did that and rebooted, unfortunately, no luck.
Does it give you any other options?

No, it is just a toggle between those two settings.

According to the detailed specification, there shouldn't be any compatibility issues.

From the MSI page, "1 x M.2 slot: Supports PCIe 3.0 x4 (AMD® Ryzen 1st and 2nd Generation/ Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics) or PCIe 3.0 x2 (AMD® Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics) and SATA 6Gb/s 2242/ 2260 /2280/ 22110 storage devices"

From the Samsung page: "Form Factor: M.2 2280", "Interface: SATA 6 Gb/s Interface, compatible with SATA 3 Gb/s & SATA 1.5 Gb/s interface"
Check SATA options, I thought, you had a NMVe drive. Why did you get a SATA driver instead of NMVe?!

I got it for a lot cheaper than MSRP. The only SATA options are to change the mode from RAID to AHCI and to enable/disable hotplug for each of the sata ports.

I got a reply from Samsung and MSI.

Samsung says the SSD could be DOA (dead on arrival)
MSI said to clear cmos, reseat the M.2 SSD and check if it can be seen in BIOS. Did so, nothing.

I'll try to take the SSD to a computer store to see if it works on their PCs.
