Bringing back users viewing this thread.

I believe 2 things could drastically increase the forum mobility and activity.

1. Bringing back users viewing this thread. The more people viewing a thread - the more likely others are to reply as they want their response seen. You don't need to add the names, even just have a counter that shows how many people have viewed this thread in the last 5 minutes.
I think that will drastically on its own increase the activity and want - to post quality content as well as help users like myself see the activity on threads/tutorials we create.

2. Moving the "View New" button and making it slightly different (size or design - maybe give it a button style) As that I believe, isn't being used as often as it use to. Since the changes to the forum, that button is now in a different position and from the numerous discussions I have had, it was the core driving factor for a LOT of activity.

I think "View New" should be the core for the forum -
Quick - easy - accessible and bigger to be intentionally used as the main way of finding active content on HF.

A third suggestion that i'm not fully sold on, is simply "View a random thread made/active in the last 24 hours".
That would show you a thread in any section on the forum completely at random. Possible 0.1 byte bonus for replying to these threads.

I enjoyed having the "users viewing this thread"/"users browsing this forum". It made the forum feel a little more alive IMO.

I also am an avid user of the "View New (Posts)" button and have been using it actively for 9 years. I think it needs more focus on mobile (I was thinking at least on the search modal) but on desktop it is already on every page right in your face (except when the screen is too thin but not yet mobile sized).

As for the third suggestion... even though I understand the intention I really don't think it would help. New concepts of content delivery need to be considered to really promote posting instead of a random arbitrary thread.

Personally I use the forum a lot and can honestly say i've only clicked the view new button <10 times since the forum has changed. I feel like it's too squished in where it is and doesn't get the focus it deserves.

I enjoyed the users viewing thread feature.
But I’m not really sure I remember if there was a specific reason for it being removed?

I use view new posts a lot as well.
I mostly browse on my phone and yeah it’s not in your face like on browser, but I don’t see it as a problem. When you know where it is then it takes 1 second to navigate there.

We also have to consider the new members and how they react to the layout - compared to how the older users are use to it.

I think the position where it was worked extremely well for it before where now it's crammed in between 2 on the left and 4 on the right.

You saw it every single time your eyes went to start reading a thread.

I see what you mean! Also for the mobile layout you could add it either somewhere to the left of the ratings, or even better. Add them under the marketcp, usercp, etc. Instead of “your links”

This was Omnis response to a thread asking for it back.

Please bring it back.

Please bring it back.

Could even locate it at the bottom of the thread, or even on a dropdown view.
I really like using the favs button personally. I've switched over to using that more often and only after I check that will I check view new posts.

Maybe this warrants a separate thread, but on mobile it would be great if we could view the number of replies to a thread.
Are there any stats about mobile usage on the forum? I second the interest in this feature.

Why not disable it on mobile if that's the issue and still allow medium and large screens to view it?

Would really enjoy having that feature back. Not just for seeing how many are viewing a thread but also for how many viewing section.

As a seller, it's extremely valuable to me to see if a section has active viewers at the moment or not before I make a post on my thread.

Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
You really want to have your stalkers present or to stalk, don't you?

It was a blast being on staff. I stepped down as it's time for me to move on. I wish you all the best and if you were hit by my warnings and/or bans, it was nothing personal.

Peace out!
I really enjoyed having real-time information on who was visiting my thread, now it feels like I'm alone and invisible.
1. I don't agree. Your suggestion is denied.

2. Maybe. I'm converting a lot of HF features like that into icon based. Something like the Quick Thread icon top right would be useful.

3. No. Would waste precious mobile space on a frivalous feature.

No, again it's about very precious space on mobile and keeping display clean as possible.

30% but should be higher and Google hasn't really taken enough of our pages into their index as mobile friendly even though we are 100%.

I don't want it enabled in any form. It was abused and this is why those who use scripts want it back. So they can spam people who visit their threads. I ain't gonna have it.

EXACTLY! You want this as a seller. NO, NO, NO!
