I wouldn't use it as the premier method of landing on a target.. this said txt's you can use alternate data streams, generally this is more of a post exploitation move. eg. type backdoor.exe C:\path\to\file.txt:backdoor.exe Once again it's more post exploitation. See PDF's often you are going to be looking at an exploit, note that there multiple pdf viewers/readers out there. Nothing prevent's one from including a link in a PDF to have a user manually download a payload themselves. There's a lot of DOC, XLS, PPT and PDF Exploits, but there's JPEG, MP3 and AVI Exploits? I was not talking an exploit I more am thinking of a post exploitation where a txt file is used. It's pretty old well over 4 years old http://techgenix.com/Alternate_Data_Streams/ https://enigma0x3.net/2015/03/05/using-a...d-machine/ It isn't an "exploit" it's just how NTFS works, I do believe as of a year and half or so ago this evaded a FEW AV's not sure on how it does now although let us remember that being an administrator of the machine you land upon is important so adding it to the exclusions is an option. As for MP3 I remember a file exploit where it would basically overflow a buffer and give you a shell. Remember that it's often geared towards a specific player. JPEG I know was made into a polyglot payload against a web app much like we see in bmp/png. Some files have VERY loose tolerances just look at jar's and zip files very much the same header. There are a few POC's out there for polyglot file types, of course decrypting the file on target and execution will be a big hurdle. I tend to like using this example to illustrate the loose tolerances, since it's common place to rename a jar as a zip and start taking it apart. Quote:Zip: Quote:Jar: |
