The major thing that is stopping people is knowing where to start looking, and pointing out that it's the people you associate with that makes your journey possible is very good advice indeed. Just don't get too hung up on finding "career friends" as you still want to be able to trust the people you consider friends. If you're only friends with other "wanters", you're not going to get anywhere.
