How I Made $400 Upgrading to a Macbook Pro

The lesson: Don't be afraid to change what you have. Buy low and sell high. Keep your eye open for deals and don't hesitate to buy when one appears. The money is made when you buy.

I had a god awful tablet I wanted to upgrade from. It was a cheap Chinese tablet I bought off Banggood. I wanted a proper laptop after my HP had died. The tablet I had managed to get me over until I saw an absolute deal. I bought the tablet for $250 and sold for $230 a year later. Not exactly a profit, but it freed up cash.

I saw a Macbook Pro for sale which was significantly undervalued. It had a cracked trackpad (somehow) and a few little dents and wear and tear that you would expect. I have a good mind for pricing. I know that it was significantly undervalued. I bought it for $120 with shipping and spent $10 buying a new trackpad. It's 6gb ram, 320gb hdd, MBP 13".

If you do the math, by selling the tablet and buying the Macbook, I've immediately freed up $100 in cash. While not a profit (yet), I have cash and a much higher valued thing than I did before.

Where the extra hundreds come in is when you account for basically capital gains. I did some research into the prices of this model and specs. They're going for $300-400. If I had to sell up, I could get hundreds more than what I bought for it. That's a real profit. If you consider the extreme end of the equation, $400 - $130 = $270 cash. When you consider the freed up cash from the previous sale and add that, I've made $380. Round that up and I've made $400.

Things like this take time and aren't easy to find. They're the needle in the haystack. But when you find a deal you can either twiddle on your thumbs and contemplate or you can do the work needed and find excellent deals. I kept an open mind and saw a great deal. I am ahead because of it. I see this computer as basically a savings account. I don't intend to get rid of it unless I see another deal like this again.
That's pretty awesome! I actually have an older Macbook Pro that just needs the password bypassed to the OS account that I got for free from a friend.

You talking about a CMOS password or Mac OS itself?
That's great! I've been planning to do this also. I currently have a mac, planning to sell it and buy broken ones - repair and then sell. Probably not just in macs tho, it's not quite of a market in here.
Good for you! I’d get lazy after purchasing it probably so I wouldn’t be able to profit off it, sadly. Good thing u can pull it off

Once you get into the swing of it, it is easy. If you have a plan and set goals with it, you'll definitely follow through on them. It did for me, and I'm hardly unique in my luck of making money.

Good work, once you build up enough money you could start flipping cars instead of laptops. I'm not talking about used dealerships either, I'm talking craigslist or junkyard cars that still run great but just have a broken headlight or an old timing belt.

I've thought about it. You do need a license once you sell over a quantity of cars. I guess if I see a real deal one day I'll consider it. I need to study up and improve my knowledge on cars however.
I'd like to add to look for easily common repairs like trackpads. The problem with Macs is that Apple chargers a arm and a leg for repairs so owners give-up and prefer to upgrade

Mac OS itself. Not the CMOS. Unethical way the laptop was obtained by my friend (but I received it as part of a bet).
thats dope bro! thanks for the info. can soon build up to watches or cars if you keep at it!

That's great if you have the time. I'm more in the mindset of develop a skillset to make money and put your time into that. Something that requires finding proverbial needles in the haystacks just isn't as scalable in my opinion.

At least it isn't something I would want to do. I made a couple hundred just by being active on HF, collecting bytes and gambling them + selling the winnings.

That's a great flip I have a some old laptops that I'll probably fix up and flip for some extra cash, I've never thought about flipping Macs.
