Is VPN service a profitable bussiness or saturated dogsh*t?

So yeah just wondering if anyone running the VPN service is willing to share their experience. Is it making money, or is it too saturated and waste of money&time?

I assume the hardest is to get sales obviously 😑

If it’s bad money, there wouldn’t be that many VPNs around.

Cool, which could be said about literally any object, item, or service.... Big help. Thanks for putting OP's mind at ease.

@OP the VPN market, just like the hosting market, is very saturated because the skill level and investment required to get started is close to nothing, anyone can do it. Because of this, it has been the trend that the small don't survive. It's very very rare to see a VPN that hasn't invested considerably into both infrastructure and advertising to survive. There are just so many tried and true options selling for close to nothing that it becomes very hard for a newcomer to break through, and this is especially true if the newcomer needs to see profit anytime soon. Ideally you'll be selling at a loss for your first year or so simply to build a client base, and even then you'll struggle to build a decent base.

to get started...maybe...but to have a real pro vpn with tons of security options, fast servers, no leaks, dedicated software for it takes yeas and hardly can be made by 1 person only
my buddy makes 7-8k monthly from its vpn and barely bothers doing any advertising ,but he worked almost daily on it in the first years and still working 2-3 days a week lots of years after.
Most of these kids advertising of having no logs vpn buy their servers with their real info so good luck not snitching on you when he starts having problems because of you.

It really doesn't take all that much anymore. Everything has been done already and is well documented. If you're looking to be the next cryptostorm, who are innovators in the scene, sure you're going to be putting a lot of work in... but if you're looking to set up a VPN that's just a GUI wrapper on top of OpenVPN (which is all the vast majority of VPN's are) with shit like kill switches and testing for leaks and such, you could realistically get something up and running in a day (assuming you already have your GUI made).

Collocation is very important in my opinion, and it's something that requires you to physically own your own servers and then ship them to datacenters, and is something no provider based on HF does, so I agree with you on that note. Most VPN providers who just rent VPS' to throw OpenVPN onto aren't doing any favors for their customers.
