The only drawback I would see is with deal disputes, but on most platforms when you block someone they cant interact with any threads you make, you dont see their posts and vice versa, and they cant contact/interact with you of view your profile.

I kinda agree actually atm blocking a user doesn't realy serve a purpose except that they can't view your profile and send you a PM.

Certain members are very sensitive to other members' replies so it wouldn't work well. I can name many cases of potential abuse but anyone with a right mind can see that, without me making a list.

One example would be a harassing thread against someone, let it be a community alert. OP of that thread puts the member he's about to harass on his ignore list and the mentioned member cannot defend himself. You may argue that such cases are to be reported to us, staff. That causes a lot of unnecessary work and ruined reputation of harassed member. As I said, with what you're suggesting we're going to get many cases of abuse just because someone wants to block someone (usually a member that thinks differently or an angry, rightfully dissatisfied customer) in their (sales) threads.

I totally understand where you’re coming from, but think of some possible scenarios that could happen. User could be bashed and/or talked about in a false manor, they deserve to be able to defend themselves. After all, HF depends on the community. If blocking disallowed ANY contact, I’m sure that activity on the website would decrease significantly.

No they can't.

They are limited in many ways to stop them from bothering you the same they could before.

If they reply properly or with a good intention, that's fine. But if they harass you in their post or sales trash you, you can always report their post. I like the idea of the ignore feature right now, however don't have anyone in my ignore list haha.
