I have created the mysql database and compiled the bot directory as mentioned on the github link of mirai source code. Still it is not running.  Can anyone help me out?

Learn to write your own botnet if you can't follow a step-by-step tutorial to use a botnet.

You shouldn't be messing with malware if you don't understand it.

That's not very specific. Why doesn't it run? Do you get anyerror message? Have you checked anyerror logs that might be relevant?

As mentioned in the Github page, I created on VM for C&C server, installed go programming language, MySQL server, created Mirai database with the tables as mentioned in db.sql script. my bot is running and gets connected to the C&C server but didn't show the attack options. I just wanted to see how Mirai works. I have created three VMs one for bot, one for C&C server and one for DNS server
