Rise of Emo/New Age Rap

What's everyone's opinion on the popularity increase of rappers such as: Lil Peep (RIP), XXXTentacion (RIP), Bexey, Lil Tracy, $uicideBoy$, Ghostmane, Juice Wrld (RIP), and others?

For those living under a rock, here's some examples, lol. I think the rise of these rappers is basically just a reflection of what most youth and young adults can relate to in 2017-20 and beyond. This is why "trap" rappers such as Lil Baby, Young Thug, Future, and such are not as large compared to what they were like in 2012-2016. Or perhaps they are, and simply the emo genre has a more cult following(?)

OT: I listen to literally every genre of music besides Country, haha.

You mentioned rappers that passed, and that is exactly why their increase in popularity. People seem to like the music much more since it is their last songs.
Lil peep is sad boy rap, and something I would listen to when I am baked out of my mind.

I agree, I actually just realized myself that I did that, lol. But anyhow, take for example rappers/rap groups like $uicideboy$, Bexey, Horsehead, NBA Youngboy (NBA is debatable, as he is more gangster rap, but sports very painful lyrics) whom are still alive. Peep had a cult following prior to him dying, his death only amplified that IMO.

Also, edited post to include another example.

Also, unrelated but RIP Mac Miller!

It just is what it is, people want to be included with others and they jump onto the bandwagon.
Mac Miller has his new album releasing soon, and I am actually quite excited cause it was actually being planned on being released. Going to be sad hearing his last songs.

Now, on the other hand, you have artists like XXX, his mother is milking the absolute shit out of him. He had songs that are being published that weren't supposed to be published. The artist knew it wouldn't fit his genre or audience but now since he has passed no matter what comes out people will like it.
It's dead.

2014-2017 sc wave was super strong now it's mostly fizzled away.

Funny you say that, I am listening to it right now as I type this. The only thing with Mac Miller is; I grew up in High School listening to THAT Mac Miller. Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza, Donald Trump, Smile Back, etc. That's the Mac Miller I like. After that, the only stuff I really enjoyed from him was maybe Brand Name and that is it. But I am going to take a listen because it just dropped an hour ago and I had no idea.

Then he started getting heavy on the drugs and his entire vibe changed and I wasn't feeling it. Some will say it's the drugs by the way, but I think it is combination of that and just simply him evolving as an artist. But that's just part of being an artist I suppose. Take Eminem for example and look at all the changes he has made to his voice and flow and lyrics from the 90's all the way to modern times. I fuck with the old Eminem WHEN he was drugged up (sorry Shady), and literally just didn't care about anything.

EDIT: Never mind, I see you are talking about SC mainly. Well I can agree with that, but that is simply a matter of saturation. A lot of people want to be famous and think they can hop on SC and magically get a deal. It's really not like that. We can all agree on that one.

The way I see it, if an artist releases something catchy, no matter what platform, and it begins to blow up due to hype, imaging, and catchiness; people will be vibing to it regardless. Take Bexey for example. I mean, he was one the one who let Lil Peep die (I believe him and that he wasn't aware he was dead, just thought he was nodding off). Bexey, due to what was listed above and the circumstances involving Peep's death is going to benefit. That's one less rapper of the same genre. Sad, but true. I am watching his numbers climb right in front of my eyes.
Definitely prefer it more than melodic rap like Gunna, Lil Baby, etc

Waaaat? I can see what you mean 100% but artists like Peep, Bexey, Juice Wrld are/were melodic as hell.

I honestly am not a huge fan of Gunna and Baby though tbh. Young Thug on the other hand I got respect for because that was all my high school days, lol.
