I read this article this morning, and it was a bit of a sobering one to read. A young man who had lived as a street kid in Vietnam, specifically Ho Chi Minh City where it's already tough for a youngster, was kidnapped by a Chinese gang and essentially sold off into slavery so he would be put to work on a UK cannabis farm. He was asked first, refused, then taken by force, taken to China, beaten, tortured, scarred for life, trafficked some more, then put to work in the farm where he was shackled, tortured again, and then finally managed to escape by jumping through a window.
Reading his story is incredible, and it's amazing he isn't full of hate and rage for the rest of the world, and while he has people who now care for him and look out for him, there's still a chance he may be sent home, where all of this could happen again. We're all victims of the lottery of birth, but this kid had a really unfortunate time from start to finish, and it just goes to show how lucky we really are to be relatively safe in our own homes. The stats shown in the article about modern slavery really is a dark image to picture in the mind. If you've got somewhere safe to sleep tonight, people who look out for you, and relative security, please never take it for granted.
How a boy from Vietnam became a slave on a UK cannabis farm

That's very interesting, I agree with you totally never take anything for granted it can all disappear within a heartbeat.

It really can, through war, sickness, poverty, or even from the fallout of a break up. Just can't even begin to imagine what he went through in terms of fear, pain and the lack of security at every step.
Things like this happen all the time, sadly, but at least it goes to show how cruel people can be. Never underestimate and never trust anyone fully.
Lovely.

It does. Vietnamese seems to be target for cannabis farms especially in the UK, countless have been caught living in the farms over the years,

So often! I remember a couple of years ago there was a whole family liberated from a crack cocaine operation in London, and they'd been locked up together for this operation for around five years in total. One of their children was a pre teen and had spent pretty much half of his life locked up sorting out ingredients etc. Awful, awful stuff.
I would say i'm doing good if I end up on a UK danky wanky farm.

Very edgy comment.

I find a lot of things edgy, especially identity theft.

Very bizarre thing to say, but okay. Anyway, this thread was to discuss the article.
Dang that’s crazy, you never realize that stuff like this is still happening because it’s kept so quiet. That’s horrible to hear that.

Very much so. Especially for it to be happening here in the UK, you'd expect we'd be so tight on this kinda stuff that it'd be nigh on impossible, but just goes to show it can happen anywhere, any time, and people can end up so far away from home in their own personal hell.
How absolutely horrid :/ Kid was hoping he could build out a life worth living in his home country, only to get kidnapped and used as some sort of "automatic watering system" for a weed farm. How can you do such a thing to children and sleep at night?

That's what I don't understand, like from a purely nihilistic point of view, even if you consider people as tools then what's the benefit from going out of one's way to actually injure them and cause them to suffer? Seems like cruelty out of glee, so disgusting.
