How to install Kali Linux As a dual boot

I have tried multiple times to install a dual boot thing with my laptop, and have windows and Kali Linux on a choosable menu on startup, I kinndaaa did it?? But when my laptop starts up, there is a Kali Linux option but when I click on it it says something along the lines of "The file is missing blah blah blah".

Could someone maybe point me in the direction of an actual helpful website? Or maybe even write something up? Thanks in advance!

It would help if you posted an actual helpful error message instead of 'blah blah blah'.

Sorry man, Forgot what it said at the time, when I choose DEBIAN/linux on the start up screen It says "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
INFO - The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors"
Can you lay it out step-by-step to what you did? Or link us to the tutorial you followed?

Sounds like you broke the boot loader when installing Kali.

I couldn't find the exact tutorial that I found, but this has pretty much the same steps that to what I did!

If you have a Windows 10 boot disk of some sort there should be a built in repair feature.
So what is your situation exactly?

What hardware are we working with? Laptop/desktop model? If OEM, what motherboard?

Is Windows starting? Windows is reporting this file missing error?

If you recall, what partitioning choices did you make? Did you make any choices regarding a bootloader?

Ok Ok Ok OK!!! ILL TELL YOU!!!!

Jokes aside, I'm working with a HP envy 360x, Windows 10. Windows is fine it's just the Kali Linux Boot option that's broken, I did choose to have a dual boot option whilst attempting to install kali Linux, and I think I remember doing something wrong in the installation process of Kali, So I might try to do the steps again (From the Website) And do it properly this time.

Yeah, try to follow that tutorial and then report back here. We will see if we can fix it for you.

You could also pop in the kali installation drive and boot into the live version

Once booted u can use a tool called boot-repair to fix ur bootloader

Due lack of posts I cant post links. Google for: Ununtu boot-repair

And you will find!

Good luck!
did you install kali first?
windows likes to take over the boot sector when installed over another OS, if thats the case try
installing windows first and let kali step around it.
Hi there everyone

I have had a similar issue, I installed kali linux with the Unetbootin program.
On start up i get the options to load up unetbootin with the linux partition or windows 10.
Once i pick the unetbootin it loads for about 10 seconds and then i get the error;

FILE : \ubnldr.mbr

status: 0xc000007b

the application is missing a required file.

(I tried adding the photo on here but i cannot figure out to change it to a url for you guys to see)

Thank You

Most likely because Unetbootin removes syslinux.cfg from the ISO when it is wrote to the USB, restore the file or use a different program
XMPP: pm me
I had this exact issue Flare. Is the error you are seeing that G2LDR.mbr is missing? You cannot install Debian on a Windows OS as an alternate boot OS. You need to download and install the live iso from Kali and run it as an encrypted partition on a bootable USB. Had to use universal USB installer, and AOMEI partition assistant to properly install the live ISO onto a bootable usb. This will save you some time. Had to spend several hours several months ago because I wanted to use a Kali VM on VMWARE on a Windows machine but was having alot of difficulty getting the system to recognize my usb WIFI adapter and was also having tremendous difficulty troubleshooting unresolved issues concerning setting up my port forwarding configurations so wanted to just use an alternate OS.

Hope this information helps. Took me awhile to get everything right when I was facing this issue. Good luck!
