I would not worry about killing people and worry more about staying alive and keeping them away from me and my family. If family members try to follow purge rules, I would tie them up and beat them senseless so they don't try it again. On a repeat offense I would stay away from them too.

To take a human life is something massive. Not just something you can reasonably say, "alright time to go kill my high school bully for breaking all my pencils". A Hollywood style "purge" would take all the meaning out of it.

I would kill whoever came to kill me or the people I care the most about, aside from that I'd stay out of it.
