Upper back pain (right side)

EDIT: doctor said it could be issues with the Levator Scapulae muscle. Will have to wait and see.

I can't find good answers on google, anyone know what this is called?

The pain is stabbing and it hurt really bad when I turn my head and look to the right. I also hear cracking sounds in my neck when I do so. But the pain itself isn't in my neck but near the shouler, spreading to the upper back (as in the picture above).

I was thinking it could be torticollis but I have had it before and this is just different.
Going to see a doctor about this if it doesn't get better. Checking here to see if anyone have any ideas of what it could be.

The pain in our body is very often mis-placed, and from what you tell me it sounds like it is coming from the neck.
We have 2 major nerve-system links called the Isjais nerve (Sciatica), which can cause shooting of pain usually down a specific area of the body (left or right).

If you have had a small fracture in your spine or neck, it can sometimes cause numbing and extreme discomfort.
If you have access to a non-steroid cream, it will help to see if the pain is caused by inflammation in the area,
and to see if the muscle group is reacting to it if they somehow have restrained themselves.

Could you explain how you first injured it? Could give some insight to the diagnosis. I highly doubt its sciatica though.

Sorry I forgot to mention that, I started feeling an off sensation and within 2-3 hours or so, it went to what it is now. Nothing happened, it came from nowhere.

Doctor told me to wait 2-3 days and if it doesn't get better, I'll have to schedule an appointment.
Since I didn't hit myself and pretty much came out of nowhere, the doctor I was talking to said it could be issues with the Levator Scapulae muscle.

You should see someone whos an orthopedist and also someone from the neuromedicine speciality. Do you have any joint stiffness in that right shoulder or just the bouts of pain?

Maybe you were carrying too much weight on your shoulder?
I often get those pain when I lifted heavy loads on my shoulder...try to put some hot packs and ask someone to massage a little.
If the pain persist you must see the doctor to have it check and figure out what's the real problem.

Yeah I would probably get it seen about. You never know what it could be, until you get it checked out.

Keep safe and take care bro.
God bless
Only just found this thread, sorry if its already fixed. But something that might help ya find the cause - I injured my left shoulder while pressing 50lb dbs like 2 years back. It wouldn't hurt normally but after every shoulder day it would be sore and I could barely move. Thought it was my rotators that got injured.

What fixed it for me was stretching and warming up, taking very light weights and just all around moving the muscle, reduced my injuries by about 50%. Worth giving it a try.

It's all good now (almost)! Thank though, it's much better now and my doctor said it was probably just a muscle strain or something. The 'funny' thing is that I took a covid-19 test a few days ago just for the sake of it and it was positive. I got absolutely zero symptoms. I called my doctor and he said it's possible that covid-19 could have caused the back pain to begin with. Been about 9 days since I tested positive and I would probably test negative now, and never developed a symptom. Could have been a false positive? I don't know.
