Premium HF tutorials section.

So talking in the HF discord and seemed like it had some support.

The most demotivating thing about making top tier high quality tutorials, y'know the ones - not your average run of the mill type;
Is simply having them die or people copy paste worse versions that make it hard for people to find/learn the proper ways of doing things.
We don't make these for profit, simply to teach users and help the community learn.

So without an award or any of that crap - just a section that is set for premium top tier tutorials, in fact remove the usernames after they are made and put "Hackforums" as the user who made them.

Rules for these threads:
If downloading/installing a specific version of something - include backups of the code as an attachment hosted by HF. (instead of cloning it to your own github or other crap - as when some versions update they require updating the thread)

Images are hosted by HF to ensure they don't go down over time.

Threads must be organized properly and have been tested by at least x amount of people before even being pushed to a possible approval status.

If a thread is found to no longer work for whatever reason such as patches, demote it and remove it from the section.

Proper formatting, coloring, and depending on the use case - possible translations available for these threads, using the collective knowledge of HF to ensure the translations aren't bad google ones.

>> With a huge push to mobile users, it's important they can find the tutorials they need as they won't be the ones making them.
>> Make it an upgraded feature to access "HF's Tutorial Repository"
>> Release a yearly PDF or book using the tutorials from the section. "The HF hackers guide"
(Just ideas at the bottom)
>>If a user is willing, they can do a video walkthrough and associate it to the thread as "added" info.

Only if it were 'certain' blogs that made it - there are plenty of blogs that wouldn't/shouldn't fit this section.
If that doesn't work out, i suggest adding a subsection inside the existing tutorials and move only the highest quality there (selected by staff or someone else trusted).

I don't think 'stickied' threads cuts the mustard when it comes down to it.
I understand why it can be frustrating to make a remarkable HQ tutorial thread that took you long time and it dying in short periods of time.
This could be a nice addition indeed, I'd love to see it happen.

Why not? It's easier to find what you're looking for in a few pages than in a thousand.
If someone were able to cultivate and actively manage these submissions then the idea IMO is a great one. The problem we have now is that nobody is here to really determine what's good content for tutorials. There isn't too much incentive for some members to create tutorials when they fear it will get drowned out by lesser or useless threads.

Another big problem (which you address) are images hosted elsewhere that are later removed. HF has a LOT of great tutorials from the past that are rendered almost useless because images are destroyed. This has even happened to my own threads. I have a few tutorials from years back that rely on the images that no longer exist (thanks min.us). This issue is exacerbated because for some time HF actually pushed the image hosting service min.us. They don't exist anymore and neither do any of the hosted images. This means that a huge chunk of HF threads simply have good tutorial content removed.

It's not the easiest thing to pick through a bunch of bad tutorials in search for the one that still has images, is relevant, and is good. Having somebody to cultivate a section with top tier content would help a lot of current and future members. It would also promote authors to keep their thread updated with the latest information.

At the end of the day, some human needs to be involved in the process to make it work. We have teams working on the News, the Wiki, or various other group projects. What about somebody focused on the cultivation of good, solid HF tutorial content?

Why not mix a few things, blogs for example. Just a reviewer group/person that would look through these tutorial threads and the blogs.

That's exactly what Mr. Robot (and myself in my post) is already suggesting. At least one part of his suggestion.

I'm totally in, I love the idea. It addresses the most serious problems when it comes to quality tutorials. Let's make it true.

I agree with the entirety of your OP except for this line. I never like seeing good information be deleted, even if it's outdated/deprecated. Closing the threads and maybe concatenating [Outdated] to the thread title is a better approach imo. Even though the guide may not work now, it still may be beneficial to be able to go and look at what has worked in the past.

Just my 2 cents, take it for what its worth.

He never said delete though, why not just move it to the regular tutorial sub?

You're right.

I think if it was good enough to be a premium tutorial, it should stay a premium tutorial, just be closed with a [Deprecated] / [Outdated] tag. I'm sure some people would find pleasure in digging through old tuts, without having to sift through the garbage.

It should work with this tagging AND should be moved to a subforum called Archive.
In the main forum, you should only see tutorials that are currently working/doable. If you want to see tutorials that are outdated, patched, or something else, you should head over to the Archive.

Honestly i dont think its a good idea.
Its good to see old tutorials that no longer work because it gives u initaitive to find a way to fix it.
Its fine as is in my op
