I think I'm starting to develop a racist habit.

First of all me and my family, wife and kid , are all from Greece. Born and raised here. Since the day I was born, Greek people used to treat black/iraqi/pakistani people differently. Badly obviously. Treat them like they are some kind of lower quality people, always degrading them and mocking them. There was a place, long ago, a car wash, near to where I used to live, run by a Greek guy, that had only Pakistani employees , so he can pay them less than the minimum wage, which is really low to begin with. Everytime I happened to pass by this place for some unknown reason he was always shouting at them and I even saw him push one of them to the ground once.

Anyway, 7 years ago, when I had literally no money at all, I got myself a job, handing out brochures and stuffers to random buildings, but in order to get in, they had instructed us to ring ALL the bells, so they open for us and we go in to leave them at their doorsteps. Obviously, I didn't want to do this, I didn't want to distrurb anyone, but if I didn't do so, they would have fired me, so I did.

Everytime I happened to run into a greek person, they would always storm out at me degrading me and insult me even tho I tried to explain that this, at the time, was my only option.
However, everytime I happened to run into a Pakistani or black person, they would always let me in the building and even sometimes offer to let me into their houses to give me water or food.
They understood my condition a lot more than Greek people did, they respected me and trusted me without even knowing me and I appreciated that heavily.

Now that my financial status is off the top, sometimes, I catch myself treating Greek people the same way they used to do at black/pakistani people. Disrespect them and degrade them fully knowing that they need me and have to endure this kind of behaviour from me. I guess, I want them to feel how it's like to be treated like less of a human, hoping that this will humble them a bit.
However, while this is deserving in some kind of twisted way, it creates an never ending cycle of hate. Hate breeds more hate. So instead of actually helping them to humble themselves, I just give them brand new reasons to hate on each other, feeding off of it and continue expanding this vicious cycle even more. I am starting to realise that I am guilty of the same thing that I hated Greek people for and as I grow older I cannot keep avoiding this realisation, I have to face it and overcome it.

These were my thoughts regarding the whole situation. I would appreciate any kind of feedback, whether it's good or bad. Thanks in advance.
Not really the point of your story but my experiences are the complete opposite. I've always had good experiences with greek people and mostly found Pakistani people to be really rude. Overall everybody individually is different so yeah our personal experience can lead us to generalize but you're not really gaining anything from treating random people how some other random people treated you.

If I am being honest, Greek people I've met in this forum were pretty okay and yeah of course generalizing is indeed bad that's what I am starting to realise as I grow older. Don't get me wrong, of course there are some good greek people out there and some bad as well. That is true for every race in this planet. However, most of my serious encounters with Greek people so far, especially Greek "businessmen" were shit and eventually after many and many encounters like this, you're starting to think...Is it a culture thing? If it is, then it's right feeling this way.

People can be different depending on their own position. It's possible poor Greek people in Pakistan would have acted the opposite way & the same for Pakistani people.
This is a strong story my friend.
And I admit that I am impressed that after reflection you want to break this vicious circle.
Violence, aggression as a substitute for arguments, hatred towards other people (regardless of whether it is on a racial basis or not) - this never solves anything, but only deepens the problems that we have enough in today's world. Instead of fueling this madness, it is always better to reach out to the other person without looking at the past we have behind us. Then our future will become much brighter

All the best to you✌

You should be the one that sets the example.
So for you to behave like that IS making it worse.

But you already know this.
You're pretty smart, have a good observation about yourself.

I would have the same as you tho.

Treat people the way you would like to be treated.

Thank you brother appreciate the comment and the kind words. I don't consider myself smart, if I were I would have realised that years ago. I am just a guy striving to be better in any way I can. Appreciate it a lot tho.

This is indeed a wise thing to do, however where this got mixed up for me was how should I treat people, that don't treat other people the way they would like to be treated.

Your perspective is insightful, I can relate in some ways based on my own ideological values.
Nonetheless, I strive to devalue those thoughts as I think them.
They can be a bit intrusive sometimes.. Based on your story, I think you'll work out the kinks yourself.
You are aware enough to know the feeling, but enough to realize the animosity behind reacting the way you want to.

You might not be smart, but at least you're wise.
A simple person wouldn't discuss such matter in such a way haha

Smart people know that they don't know everything, which imho makes them pretty smart hahah.

It's totally fine, Greek people are shit mate!
JK, I get where you're coming from tho but I think the best option is to be kind to people, whenever someone is nice to me at least, I automatically become nicer, for example if someone let's me cut in traffic, I'll for sure let others in as well.
I always try being nice and courteous to people but everyone has bad days and it's nice when you're having a bad day to have someone do something nice for you, even if it's just the way they treat you.

Yeah exactly. When someone isn't nice to you , you feel this urge to retaliate, but rarely it is correct to do so. But, unfortunately, you do indeed feel the need the retaliate.
