This is still one of my top anime of all time, as a manga and anime consumer who read/watched 140 plus, I personally believe it's top tier. I love the development of kaneki and all the other characters, I felt they wrote it well and I was actually caught off guard a few times. Unlike the average mainstream anime.

I asked this question because most people I know hated it, which I know is true due to its decline in popularity. I feel if you read the manga and understood you would love it also.

What's your opinion?

Tokyo Ghoul is certainly one of my favorite manga. Tokyo Ghoul :re was a bit lack luster compared to the original manga but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. As for the anime, well pretty much the same thing. First season was pretty enjoyable for me, a solid 6-7 for me. The Root A and :re seasons were incredibly bad though. The changes to the story in Root A were a complete mind fuck and fucked over major plot points. The amount of condensing that :re had to go through to fit so much content into such a few amount of episodes really hurt the story. Combine that with such stiff animation and I could barely finish the anime.

Overall though, I think Ishida did a wonderful job at creating a world and characters that were refreshingly original at it's time. While it might not be my #1 anymore, TG was certainly a major series for me. I mean shit, I've got like 4 TG inspired tattoos.

Bro if you have the time send some pics over i’d love to see. Been wanting to get a tattoo so bad, but honestly just need some better inspiration. Not to hate on you if you do but i feel the basic kaneki eyes or that one flower is over rated. Want something minimal and also original in a sense, so hard to find die hard fans.

If I ever end up taking pics of them I'll post them. I agree with you though. My tattoos are Uta's neck tattoo wrapped around my arm, a centipede on the inside of my left forearm, a design of Uta's chest tattoo on my stomach wrapped around my belly button, and I'm planning on getting tattoos on my fingers that are inspired by Uta's finger tattoos. I'm planning on tattooing over the quote on my arm and getting it redone around my neck eventually.

It's one of my favorite manga of all time and one of my most disliked anime adaptations of all time.

I'd like it if the ending was stretched out a bit more but nevertheless, still one of my favorites.
